Description
David Minge '64 has had a distinguished career as a lawyer, Minnesota state representative, and judge. He is a scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., a fellow in the W.W. Kellogg Foundation Food and Society Policy Program and a lecturer at the University of Minnesota, Morris. The David Minge Endowment defrays costs for students participating in a St. Olaf-sponsored academic program and/or Academic Internship in Washington, D.C.

Eligibility Requirements
- Experience must take place in Washington, D.C.
- Identified program and/or internship must in some way relate to issues of peace and social justice
- In the case of an academic program, the program must be sponsored by St. Olaf College (e.g., Washington, D.C., Semester - The American University)
- In the case of an internship, the internship must follow the St. Olaf Academic Internship guidelines (see below)
- Must be currently enrolled as a St. Olaf student having completed at least one full year of college
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 will normally be required
Application Procedure
Scholarships will be given based on four primary criteria -- the substance of the written proposal, evidence of sound preparation for the academic program and/or internship experience, general academic performance, and faculty support.
All items must be included for your application to be considered:
A one-page essay that includes the following:
- a description of academic program and/or internship site;
- a description of supervision;
- the relationship between your program/internship and issues of peace and justice -- a convincing argument should be made as to the impact the experience will have on your understanding of these issues;
- the intersection of your proposed program/internship with politics -- provide examples of how the experience will involve you in the political process; and
- features of your program/internship that connect with faith -- ways in which being a student from St. Olaf, a college of the church, will affect your experience.

Completed applications, with all supporting materials, must be submitted to the Center for Experiential Learning - Modular Village by April 21st. Questions regarding the David Minge Endowment may be directed to Paula Schanilec, x3869 or Dan Hofrenning, x3128.
Award Amount: $1,000
In most instances awards in the amount of $1,000 per student will be given. The review committee reserves the right to disburse scholarship funds in different amounts depending upon the number of applicants, available funds, and demonstrated need.

If accepted, you must submit a letter to David Minge (contact information will be provided upon receiving money from the endowment).
