FEDERATED INSURANCE LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Federated Insurance, Owatonna, MN has made a gift to St. Olaf College that will allow the awarding of one $1,500 scholarship for the academic year 2009-10.

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, students must currently be a JUNIOR (class of ’10) with a declared major in MATH, ECONOMICS or COMPUTER SCIENCE or a concentration in MANAGEMENT STUDIES, and a GPA of at least 3.0.

As an organization that prides itself on EQUITY, TEAMWORK, INTEGRITY AND RESPECT, Federated Insurance will expect that students who apply can demonstrate their commitment to these “cornerstone” principles.  Federated Insurance has a long history of COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE TO OTHERS and, as such, students applying for these scholarships should demonstrate a similar orientation.

The application deadline is April 8th.  To apply for one of the Federated Insurance Leadership Scholarship, students must submit the following via OleRecruiting (see instructions below):

* current resume
* unofficial academic transcript
* short essay (500 words or less) -
The essay should explain briefly the student’s career goals and how the student has demonstrated one or more of Federated Insurance’s “cornerstone” principles in an employment, extracurricular, or community involvement/service activity.

Follow These Directions:

1. Have a resume ready to upload (peer advisors are available to help - M-F, 9-5).

2. Save a copy of your unofficial transcript by logging into the Student Information System.  Click on "Courses & Grades", click on "Grades" in the upper right corner, click "Go", under "Year & Terms", click "All Years & Terms", click "Go". Select File, Print - select a .pdf printer (Adobe or Primo PDF). If you don't have this option, stop by the CEL and use one of our computers. Now save this document to a place easily accessible.

3. Save a copy of your essay to a common location.

4. Login to OleRecruiting via the directions on the left side of the screen.

5. Upload your resume under "Documents", "upload a document", "Resume". Upload your "unofficial transcript" & "essay" by clicking on "Documents", "pload Document", "Other".

6. Now, to apply for the Leadership Scholarship, click on "Employers" on the gray bar, click "Employer Search", underneath "Employer Name", type "Federated", click "Search". Click on the number of jobs under the "Jobs" category in the middle of your screen. Click "Leadership Scholarship".

7. Read the description. When you get to the bottom of the screen, click on Apply. Next, you will be at a screen where you can select the resume, transcript & essay you want to use. Be sure to select all 3 items. Click "Submit".

Winners will be announced by April 20th; a presentation to the winner of the scholarship will be made at a short reception in late April. Questions regarding this program may be directed to Pat Smith or x3268.
