St. Olaf’s signature internship programs enrich students’ hands-on experience
Internship experience is an essential component to an undergraduate education. While there are many factors that impact success in the job search, internship experience will make students more competitive candidates and will inform students’ decisions in important and meaningful ways as they develop and pursue post-graduate plans.
Recognizing the value of internship experience, St. Olaf staff, faculty, alumni and parents have worked together to develop a number of programs that provide hands-on learning and financial support for otherwise unpaid internships. Participation in any one of St. Olaf’s signature internship programs will increase the depth and value of the students’ experience.
There are key characteristics that set St. Olaf’s internship programs apart from traditional individual internships, including:
- Significant financial support, through scholarships and stipends, for otherwise unpaid work
- Enhanced support and higher-level involvement from St. Olaf staff, faculty, and alumni
- A focus on vocational discernment, civic engagement, and/or peace and justice
- An opportunity to positively impact an organization and/or issue in sustainable ways
- A chance to reflect on learning as part of a cohort or learning community made up of peers with similar goals and interests
- Interdisciplinary teams of students collaborating on a real-work project
