OASIS: Oles Advancing Social Innovation & Sustainability
OASIS is a student organization that promotes and supports social entrepreneurship and innovation on campus.
Mission Statement
OASIS encourages social entrepreneurship on campus and strengthens the capacity of students to develop innovative solutions to social problems for a more just, sustainable world. We define social entrepreneurship as applying the process and spirit of entrepreneurship to social issues in order to create long-term solutions that address the root causes of social issues.
OASIS Projects
OASIS projects are two-fold: first, to educate students about social entrepreneurship through panels, speakers, and workshops on campus. Second, to provide support for students, specifically Entrepreneurship & Social Innovation Grant recipients, as they design and implement socially innovative ventures. OASIS connects budding entrepreneurs with a network of other students, faculty, staff, alumni and Northfield community members to aid student entrepreneurs in designing and launching their ideas for social change. Become a Member!
You don't have to be a business mogul to join OASIS! If you are passionate about social change, and want to enact change through venues outside of the non-profit and service areas, this is the place for you!
What do we do at meetings?
In addition to organizing campus-events, we start off meetings by sharing short videos or presentations about new social entrepreneurs. This allows us to see the possibilities for change and inspires us to enact our own innovative ideas. Additionally, we go on site visits to see social entrepreneurship first hand. Coming up are visits to 1000 Hills Cattle Company (a company that specializes in grass-fed beef, some of which is served in the Caf!) and The Cookie Cart (a non-profit that employees North Minneapolis Youth in the cookie-baking and selling industry in order to combat gang violence).
How do I join?
Contact one of the leadership team members and ask to be put on the alias or attend one of our weekly meetings, Mondays at 6:30 in Tomson 200!
