Alive Magazine
Editorial Intern
Minneapolis, MN
May-August 2008
Alive believes that every young woman has a God-given story to tell and that she deserves a safe place to question, explore, and share what makes her fully alive. In that spirit, Alive invites young women (ages 13-25) to reflect on their unique experiences, express their individual passions, and develop their creative gifts as they share in a dynamic, encouraging community, grow in mind, body, and spirit, and affect change in the world.
Because Alive Magazine believes that every young woman has a story to share, Alive seeks to highlight a variety of experiences, interests, and talents young women have. We encourage all of our potential contributors to write their own stories. While many express uncertainties about the importance of their story or their writing ability, most of them are actually quite skilled. For all writers, Alive hopes to create an environment where they feel safe exploring their gifts and stories.
As an editorial intern, you will work directly with young women to articulate and develop their ideas. Each writer works differently. Some need gently prodding, while others need specific guidelines. Your work as an Editorial Intern will be to not only edit their work, but develop a relationship with them so you can sense how best to meet their needs.
We are committed to you having a positive encounter with the media/publishing world that will not only provide worthwhile work experience, but will help you reflect on who you are and where you want to go. In that spirit, we tailor each internship to the participant, creating a mutually beneficial experience for both Alive and you.
