APPLYING FOR A FEDERAL DIRECT STUDENT LOAN
You may complete these three steps in any order, provided that you have already received your financial aid award and have been awarded a Federal Direct Student Loan.
To receive the most accurate fall semester billing statement possible, you should complete the three steps below before July 1, 2009.
Step One: Accept all or part of your Federal Stafford Loan.
- Return your signed financial aid award accepting all or part of the Direct Loan.
Step Two: Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN)
- Visit the Direct Loan MPN site and click the link “Complete New MPN for Student Loans.”
- You may sign your MPN online by using your Department of Education PIN (the same PIN that you used to sign the FAFSA).
- If you have forgotten your PIN, you can request that it be sent to you by visiting www.pin.ed.gov
Step Three: Complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
- Visit the Direct Loan Entrance Counseling site to complete this federal requirement for first-time Direct Loan Borrowers. Click "Go" under the heading "Entrance Counseling." Then click "Tutorial and Quiz (New Session) under the heading "Stafford Loan."
