APPLYING FOR A FEDERAL DIRECT STUDENT LOAN
You may complete these steps in any order, provided that you have already received your financial aid award and have been awarded a Federal Direct Student Loan.
To receive the most accurate fall semester billing statement possible, you should complete the two steps below before July 15, 2012.
Step One: Accept all or part of your Federal Direct Student Loan.
- Accept your loan online via Financial Aid Online.
- IF YOU PREVIOUSLY BORROWED A DIRECT STUDENT LOAN AT ST. OLAF: NO FURTHER ACTION IS NEEDED
Step Two: New St. Olaf Direct Student Loan Borrowers ONLY - Complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)
- Visit StudentLoans.gov select "Sign In" - you will need your Federal PIN Number to access this system. If you have forgotten your PIN, you can request that it be sent to you by visiting www.pin.ed.gov
- Select "Complete Entrance Counseling" - you will need about 30 minutes to complete this step
- Select "Complete Master Promissory Note" then "Subsidized/Unsubsidized"
*Both the Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note must be received in the Financial Aid Office before any loan funds can be disbursed onto your tuition account.
