Merit Scholarships

St. Olaf offers competitive merit scholarships that recognize achievement and potential for academic, artistic, service, and leadership success.  The table below provides summary information about award amounts and the academic profile of the recipients of our various merit scholarship programs who were admitted to St. Olaf in Fall 2011.  With the exception of the National Merit Scholarship program administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, merit scholarships are awarded on the basis of competitive application through St. Olaf.

Students may apply for as many scholarships as they wish.  The total value of all merit scholarships cannot exceed half of the comprehensive fee, unless the family’s demonstrated need exceeds that amount.

St. Olaf Academic Scholarship Program  ($8,500 - $18,000 per year)
National Merit Scholarship Program ($7,500 per year)
St. Olaf Service Leadership Scholarship ($8,000 per year)
St. Olaf Access Scholarships ($8,000 per year)
Music Scholarships ($7,500-$11,500 per year)
Art Scholarships ($6,000 per year)
Dance Scholarships ($4,000-$8,000 per year)
Theatre Scholarships ($6,000 per year)

How To Apply

Academic (Buntrock, Presidential, St. Olaf Academic and St. Olaf Access) Scholarships Check the box on the Common Application that says you wish to be considered for merit scholarships.  Students invited as finalists for the Buntrock Scholarship program will also be required to interview with faculty during Scholars’ Weekend, March 9-10, 2012.
   
Service Leadership Scholarship Check the box on the Common Application that says you wish to be considered for merit scholarships.  To receive fullest consideration, also submit a resume’ summarizing your service activities to the Admissions Office.
