ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
* MA in Educational Technologies, Learning Technologies, Instructional Design or other similar degree.
* Well-versed with industry-standard multimedia software including the iMovie, Adobe Creative Suite, Aviary, Final Cut Pro etc.
* Well-versed in scanning, wide-format printing, video creation and editing, and a host of educational software including Google Docs, Moodle, MS Office Suite, etc.
* 2 to 5 years or equivalent workshop or classroom experience
* Experience with curriculum development and the visual design and layout of instructional materials.
* Strong oral and writing communication skills and effective managerial and supervisory skills.
* Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
The Manager of the Multimedia Development Center is a member of a team-oriented staff and is responsible for providing the campus with instructional technology services. The manager oversees the Multimedia Develop Center (MDC) and is responsible for maintaining the facilities and the equipment, supervising 50-75+ weekly student hours, coordinating MDC projects, coordinating the IIT workshops program (including giving workshops), writing user guides and handouts, assisting students and faculty with computing questions and a variety of other duties. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology
40% --MULTIMEDIA DEVELOPMENT CENTER
--Manage the IIT Multimedia Development Facility. Duties include:
Select, install, and maintain appropriate technologies for the facility.
Responsible for project billing, preparing activity reports, and maintaining the center website with up-to-date and relevant materials.
Supervise a crew of up to 50-75 weekly student hours; 80-120 hours during the summer months.
Develop and manage programs and services designed to assist students and faculty developing electronic portfolios, web pages, wide format poster projects, iMovie projects, and other academic and student projects.
Provide daytime, evening, and weekend hours of operation.
7. Develop and maintain a video focused website for video production that includes documentation, resource information, an FAQ and more.
8. Provide assistance with custom digital video and editing projects on a time-permitting basis.
9. Assist departments on design and upkeep of department or course websites.
-- Provides leadership for students, faculty and staff in the effective use of new & current technologies for instructional purposes to support student learning.
--Develop and create promotional materials for IIT including posters, multimedia presentations for the IIT channel, the Tightrope system, CDs, etc.
30% -- STUDENT WORKERS
--Select, train, supervise and review student multimedia consultants
--In collaboration with the IIT Helpdesk Manager develop training materials and programs for the IIT Helpdesk students.
20% -- EDUCATION AND CONSULTING
--Serve as the IIT Staff Liaison to academic departments as assigned by the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology. Duties include:
working with faculty on the development of their computing skills, providing training and tutorial as necessary.
arranging special workshops and sessions of interest to the academic departments
researching. reviewing, and testing new applications and technology ideas applicable to the academic departments
coordinating the installation of department labs
coordinate the installation of new faculty hardware including physical set up, data transfers, special software installations, etc.
participating in technology meetings, workshops, etc. held by and for the departments.
--Serve as a copyright resource for faculty and students.
--Respond to users phone, walk-in, and Helpdesk inquiries in a timely fashion.
--Coordinate the IITs Workshop and Seminar Program and develop appropriate assessment tools to track user satisfaction and skill development.
-- Provide consulting services to St. Olaf faculty and staff to help refine ideas for innovative projects involving instructional computing, including recommendation of appropriate hardware, lab design, and software.
--In collaboration with CILA, coordinate the faculty computing workshops, seminars and events. Duties may include:
Developing an appropriate and timely schedule of workshops and seminars for faculty, students, and staff. Assisting in the development and preparation of course materials, the course website, etc.
Scheduling and train (IIT staff, faculty, students, and outside experts)
Provide feedback and control measures to ensure the sessions are informative and helpful to present and assist at workshops and seminars.
--Working with the Director of Center for Integrative Studies to develop and implement a program to assist students with the development of web-based portfolios. Specific tasks may include:
Developing an appropriate and timely schedule of workshops and seminars for both faculty and students on preparing and saving materials for web-based portfolio, use of appropriate software applications, creating and managing homepages, etc.
Providing on-going consultation to the Center for Integrative Studies on student progress, problems, and issues as they relate to the technology-side of the portfolios.
--Work with other IIT staff to provide accurate and appropriate documentation.
10% -- IIT STAFF WORK
--Attend all staff meetings.
--Prepare monthly activity reports.
--Participate in group projects.
--Perform other duties as requested by the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology.
CONTACTS
This position interacts with faculty, students, and staff on a daily basis. He or she also interacts with Deans and Department heads as needed.
WORK SCHEDULE
The Manager of the Multimedia Development Center is a full time position. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
