Retirement

Health Plan (Medical/Dental):

Eligible faculty and staff who are retiring may continue medical and dental coverage through the College, at their own cost, until age 65. Coverage is available to employees who retire and meet the following retirement eligibility:

  • Age 55 or older
  • Five years of service with St. Olaf College
  • Active participant in the St. Olaf College health plan at time of retirement.

Dependents who are covered at the time of retirement may also continue coverage.

At age 65: Retirement eligible employees automatically qualify for the Emeriti Health Insurance Plan Options when you turn age 65 and enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B. Click here to visit the Emeriti web site.

Other Benefit Continuation:

State and Federal laws permit you to continue life insurance and medical reimbursement at your own cost under COBRA (continuation of coverage).

To qualify for COBRA, you must have been covered as an eligible employee on you last day of work. You have 60 days from your last day of work to elect continuation coverage and complete the form. A COBRA packet will be sent to your home address within 14 days after your employment ends.

Unused Vacation:

Retiring employees are eligible for payment for any accrued-unused vacation balance. The accrued-unused vacation balance is based on the last actual work day as determined by the supervisor in consultation with Human Resources.

OLEcard:

As a retiree, you can continue to use your OLEcard to access the same services as an active employee.
