Life Insurances Time Away Beyond the Basics

Health & Wellness:

Health Insurance - Employees select from single or family coverage with our provider, Blue Cross Blue Shield. Take advantage of BCBS wellness benefits and a health improvement program which offers easy access to resources that can help you take your life in a healthy direction.

Dental Insurance – Employees who participate in the College's Health Insurance also receive dental coverage through Delta Dental.

Flex Spending Accounts – Employees can establish reimbursement accounts for either dependent care or out of pocket health care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Retiree Health Plan - St. Olaf offers a Retiree Health Plan to employees who retire and meet certain critera: age 55 or older, five years of service, and an active health insurance participant at time of retirement.

Life Insurances:

Basic Life Insurance – The college provides Basic Life Insurance to employees at 2 times their annual salary.

Travel Accident Insurance – The college provides up to $50,000 of coverage.

Long-Term Disability Insurance – The college provides 60% of pay after a six month waiting period.

Voluntary Life Insurance and Dependent Life Insurance – Employees have the option to purchase additional life insurance 1 or 2 times their salary and coverage for their spouse, same-sex domestic partner, or dependents.

24 Hour Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance – Employees have the option to purchase up to 10 times their salary or $500,000 whichever is less.

Retirement Savings:

Supplemental Retirement Annuity - Upon hire, employees can contribute pre-tax dollars into a 403(b) retirement savings plan.

Basic Retirement Annuity - After meeting one year of service eligibiity, employee pre-tax contributions are matched by an equal percentage contributions plus an additional 6% from the college up to a college maximum match of 9%. Employee and employer contributions are invested in a 403(b) plan administered by TIAA-CREF.

Emeriti Retirement Health Savings Account - For employees working at least half-time and age 39 or older, the college will contribute to an account that will be available tax-free in retirment for payment of health insurance premiums and reimbursement of other qualified medical expenses.

Time Away:

Vacation - St. Olaf provides salaried staff employees paid vacation based on their length of service.

Paid Time Off (PTO) - Hourly employees earn PTO days based on their lenght of service that are eligible for carry over from year to year.

Holidays - Ten (10) paid holidays

Other Paid Allowances – The college offers paid leave for jury duty and for the death of family and extended family members.

Summer Hours - The college follows an alternative schedule of hours for the summer. Generally, office hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM with a half-hour lunch period and Friday, 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM.

Learning:

Tuition Allowance – Employees, their spouse or same-sex domestic partner can take up to two course credits per academic year at the college.

Tuition Benefit for Employees Children - Waiver for 65% of comprehensive fee at St. Olaf, partial waiver at participating ELCA colleges after eligibility period.

Training & Development - Our IT staff offers a wide array of classes for employees to brush up or learn a new software skill. In addition, monthly informed workplace sessions offer classes ranging from Writing your Own Will to Supervising Your Student Employees.


Beyond the Basics:

Employee Assistance Program – Fully paid confidential 24 hour professional assistance is just a phone call away for employees, their dependents and all members of their household for any life issue that faces them.

Campus Services – Employees can take advantage of on campus post office, printing services, campus bookstore, four award winning dining centers, annual artisans fair, art shows, theatrical performances, musical performances, noon-time yoga and dance classes and much more.

Athletic Center – Employees have access to a 95,000 square foot athletic center that houses an elevated running track, pool, cardio fitness room, weight room, climbing and bouldering wall, a six lane, 200-meter track, and a field-house with four courts for volleyball, basketball and tennis. For a nominal fee, employee family members can take advantage as well.

Daily Chapel - During the academic year, students and employees can choose to attend daily chapel services which offers inspiration and a quiet harbor in a busy day.
