Service and Support Staff Committee
History:
In 1988, President Melvin D. George established this committee under the title Service and Support Staff Advisory Committee. Since then, the title has been shortened to simply the Service and Support Staff Committee. This committee is convened and facilitated by a representative of the Office of Human Resources. The initial plan was to meet on a quarterly or more frequent basis. Typically, the committee has met on a monthly basis during the academic year.
Our charge:
The committee's charge is to serve as a communications link between the service and support staff (non-exempt or hourly staff) and the administration, bringing staff issues of concern to the attention of the administration and advising the president and others in administration about matters of mutual interest.
Who we are:
We are a broad representation of the bi-weekly staff, appointed by the President, serving two-year terms. The 2007-2008 members include: Tory Borovsky, Biology: Dan Hudson, Bookstore: Lynda Maus, Academic Administrative Assistant: Colleen McShane, Payroll: Natalie Mogren, Facilities; and Roger Loftus, Director of Human Resources (convener).
When we meet:
The committee meets once a month during the academic year.
How to contact us:
Contact any member in person, via personal e-mail or phone.
What we have done:
Served as an on-going communication link between the President and the bi-weekly staff. Provided feedback on issues/proposals brought forth by the President and/or Cabinet. Provided opportunities to update and clarify employees on changes in policies (federal/state/institutional), and proposed the 2005 - 2008 holiday schedules, which were implemented.
What you can do:
Bring issues of staff concern to any member of the committee.
