Common Sense Reminders
- Do NOT adjust any item labeled "DO NOT TOUCH"
- When possible, insure the technology works before class time.
- When in doubt, ask.

1. Turning on the System
- Turn on power to rack: red ON/OFF switch at the very top right of the rack
- Turn on Sony receiver (top component) and press the input button that you will be using (Phono, MD/Tape, CD, Tuner). Sound will not work unless the receiver is on and the correct input is selected.
- Turn on the projector using the "on" power button on the remote (usually stored in drawer with the phonograph).
2. Using the Technology
2.1 Using the Audio Components
- Turn on the component(s) that you will be using (from top to bottom: tape deck, CD player, phonograph).
- If necessary, insert media (CD, video tape, audio tape) and press play. (For the phonograph, place the record on the turntable and then put the needle on the record.)
- The single arrow is play (>), while the double arrows are fast forward (>>) and reverse (<<).
- Use the volume knob on the Sony receiver to adjust the volume.
2.2 Using the ELMO Document Camera
- Turn on the ELMO Document Camera on the cart (power switch in the back right corner)
- Push the INPUT button on the projector remote until the document camera glass appears on the screen
- Use the TELE and WIDE buttons on the document camera to zoom in or out on an object or text (for text to be legible, you will most likely need to zoom in; for best results, zoom in on an object until the surrounding white background is out of view)
- If an object or text is out of focus, push the AUTO FOCUS button
2.2 Projecting the Computer or a DVD Movie
- On the Sony receiver (top component) and press the COMP input button. Sound will not work unless the receiver is on and the correct input is selected.
- The Mac computer is the bottom-most component in the rack. Flip the power switch in the lower middle of the component. The monitor above the tape deck will automatically come on.
- Push the INPUT button on the projector remote until the computer desktop appears on the screen
- The keyboard and mouse are located in a tray above the main computer and below the phonograph.
- When finished with the computer, go to the Special menu and select Shut Down.
2.3 Projecting a DVD Movie
The Mac contains a DVD-ROM drive and can be used to play DVD movies.
- Start the computer as described in the section above.
- Insert the DVD disc into the DVD-ROM drive.
- Double-click on the Apple DVD Player alias on the desktop. Click play on the round controller.
- Select Hide Controller from the Window menu and Present Video on Screen from the Video menu
- While a DVD is playing, wiggle the mouse to get the menus back so that you can use the Controls menu to Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, etc. a movie.
- When finished with the DVD, choose Exit from the File menu.
- Use the volume knob on the Sony receiver to adjust volume for the computer or a DVD movie.
- When finished with the computer, go to the Special menu and select Shut Down.
2.4 Projecting the VCR
- On the Sony receiver (top component), press the VIDEO input button. Sound will not work unless the receiver is on and the correct input is selected.
- Turn on the VCR, insert the tape, and press play.
- Push the INPUT button on the remote until the video appears on the screen.
- Use the volume knob on the Sony receiver to adjust the volume.
2.5 Projecting a Laptop
- On the Sony receiver (top component) and press the COMP input button. Sound will not work unless the receiver is on and the correct input is selected.
- Turn on the ELMO Document Camera on the cart (power switch in the back right corner)
- Use a standard DB-15 monitor cable to connect the back of the laptop (VIDEO OUT) to the back of the document camera (INPUT: RGB 1)
- Plug the Ethernet cable and audio cable on the cart into the laptop
- On the front of the document camera in the INPUT area, press the RGB 1 button (leave the OUTPUT set to MAIN)
- Turn on the laptop
- Push the INPUT button on the projector remote until the laptop desktop appears on the screen
3. Turning Off the System
- To turn off the system, eject or remove any media, turn off any components in use. (For the Mac, go to the Special menu and select Shut Down).
- Turn off the rack using the red power switch in the upper right corner.
- To turn off the projector, push the "off" button on the remote.
- Return the remote to the phonograph drawer.
