Holland Hall 204 Rack Directions

Please be sure to read all directions carefully before attempting to use the equipment. We strongly recommend that you attend a training session or request a tutorial well in advance of your class. To set up a tutorial or find out about training sessions, contact the IIT HelpDesk at extension 3830. We also recommend that you take time to test out your materials prior to your class time.

Using the Audio Components

  1. Turn on power to rack: red ON/OFF switch at the very top right of the rack
  2. Turn on Sony receiver (bottom component, above the Mac) and press the input button that you will be using (Mac or Video for the VCR). Sound will not work unless the receiver is on and the correct input is selected.
  3. Turn on the component(s) that you will be using (from top to bottom: VCR, Mac)
  4. If necessary, insert media (CD, video tape, DVD) and press play.
  5. Use the volume knob on the Sony receiver to adjust the volume

Projecting the VCR

  1. Turn on power to rack: red ON/OFF switch at the very top right of the rack
  2. Turn on Sony receiver (bottom component above the Mac) and press the "VIDEO" button. The button is located above the red "VIDEO" label.
  3. Turn on the projector using the power button on the remote (stored in the drawer with the keyboard and mouse remote) Sound will not work unless the receiver is on and the correct input is selected
  4. Turn on the VCR, insert the tape, and press play
  5. Press "Input 3" on the projector remote to display the VCR
  6. Use the volume knob on the Sony receiver to adjust the volume

Projecting the Mac or a DVD Movie

  1. Turn on power to rack: red ON/OFF switch at the very top right of the rack
  2. Turn on Sony receiver (bottom component above the Mac) and press the MAC input button (located above the MAC label). Sound will not work unless the receiver is on and the correct input is selected.
  3. The Mac computer is the bottom-most component in the rack. Flip the power switch in the lower middle of the component.
  4. Turn on the projector using the power button on the remote (stored in drawer with the keyboard and mouse remote)
  5. Push the "INPUT 1" button to display the MAC
  6. The keyboard and mouse are located in a tray at the top of the cart underneath the projector. The mouse is located at the upper right corner of the keyboard with the buttons to click located on the upper left corner.
    1. The Mac contains a DVD-ROM drive and can be used to play DVD movies. To do so, insert the DVD disc into the DVD-ROM drive. If the keyboard does not have an eject key (triangle key located on the upper right of the keyboard) press F12 to eject the CD-ROM drive
    2. Double-click on the "Apple DVD Player" alias on the desktop. Click play on the round controller.
    3. Select "Hide Controller" from the Window menu and "Present Video on Screen" from the Video menu
    4. While a DVD is playing, wiggle the mouse to get the menus back so that you can use the Controls menu to Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, etc. a movie.
    5. When finished with the DVD, choose Exit from the File menu
  7. Use the volume knob on the Sony receiver to adjust volume for the computer or a DVD movie
  8. When finished with the computer, go to the Apple menu and select Shut Down

Using the ELMO Document Camera

  1. Turn on power to rack: red ON/OFF switch at the very top right of the rack
  2. Turn on the ELMO Document Camera on the cart (power switch in the back right corner)
  3. Turn on the projector using the power button on the remote (stored in drawer with the keyboard and mouse remote)
  4. Push the "INPUT 2" button on the remote to display the document camera
  5. Use the TELE and WIDE buttons on the document camera to zoom in or out on an object or text (for text to be legible, you will most likely need to zoom in; for best results, zoom in on an object until the surrounding white background is out of view)
  6. If an object or text is out of focus, push the AUTO FOCUS button

Turning Off the System

  1. To turn off the system, eject or remove any media, turn off any components in use. (For the Mac, go to the Special menu and select Shut Down)
  2. To turn off the projector, push the power button on the remote twice WAIT 2 MINUTES FOR THE PROJECTOR TO COOL DOWN BEFORE TURNING OFF POWER TO THE CART!!
  3. Turn off the rack using the red power switch in the upper right corner
  4. Return the remote and the keyboard to the drawers
