Common Sense Reminders

1. Turning on the System

  1. On the video switcher, press the Projector on button.
  2. Using the button selectors, choose the component you will be using.

2. Using the Technology

2.1 Using the ELMO Document Camera

  1. Turn on the ELMO Document Camera on the cart (power switch in the back right corner).
  2. Turn on the projector using the On button on top of the projector.
  3. On the input control panel located under the VCR, press the DOC button which will display the document camera on the screen.
  4. Use the TELE and WIDE buttons on the document camera to zoom in or out on an object or text. (For text to be legible, you will most likely need to zoom in; for best results, zoom in on an object until the surrounding white background is out of view.)
  5. If an object or text is out of focus, push the AUTO FOCUS button.

2.2 Projecting the Computer

  1. On Sony receiver (middle component under the control switch) and press the PC or the MAC input button. Sound will not work unless the receiver is on and the correct input is selected.
  2. The Mac computer is the component on the far right side. Flip the power switch in the lower middle of the component.
  3. The PC computer is the left component on the lower right half of the cart. Press the power button, located in the middle of the unit
  4. Turn on the projector using the On power button on the top of the projector
  5. Push the Mac or PC button on the control strip located under the VCR, this will display the selected computer on the screen.
  6. The keyboard and mouse are located in a tray right below the document camera.
  7. Use the volume knob on the Sony receiver to adjust volume for the computer.
  8. When finished with the computer:
    1. On the Mac go to the Special menu and select Shut Down.
    2. On the PC click on Start and select Shut Down.

2.3 Projecting a DVD Movie

The PC contains a DVD-ROM drive and can be used to play DVD movies.

  1. Start the PC computer and projector using the instructions above.
  2. Insert the DVD disc into the DVD-ROM drive.
  3. The DVD player will automatically start once the DVD is inserted into the drive.
  4. Double click on the movie window to have the movie displayed using the full screen
  5. While a DVD is playing, wiggle the mouse, or double click the screen to get the menus back so that you can use the Controls menu to Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, etc. a movie.
  6. When finished with the DVD, click on the X on the upper right corner and remove the DVD from the drive

2.4 Projecting the VCR

  1. On the Sony receiver (middle component under the control switch), press the VCR input button. Sound will not work unless the receiver is on and the correct input is selected.
  2. Turn on the projector using the On button on top of the projector.
  3. Turn on the VCR, insert the tape, and press play.
  4. Push the input button on top of the projector until the VCR is displayed.
  5. Use the volume knob on the Sony receiver to adjust the volume.

2.5 Projecting a Laptop

  1. Turn on the ELMO Document Camera on the cart (power switch in the back right corner).
  2. Use a standard DB-15 monitor cable to connect the back of the laptop (VIDEO OUT) to the back of the document camera (INPUT: RGB 1).
  3. Plug the Ethernet cable and audio cable on the cart into the laptop.
  4. On the front of the document camera in the INPUT area, press the RGB 1 button (leave the OUTPUT set to MAIN).
  5. Turn on the laptop.
  6. Turn on the projector.
  7. Push the DOC button on the control panel for the laptop to appear.

3. Turning Off the System

  1. To turn off the system, eject or remove any media, turn off any components in use. (For the Mac, go to the Special menu and select Shut Down. For the PC, click on Start and select Shut down)
  2. To turn off the projector, push the OFF button on the video switcher.
