Common Sense Reminders

  • Do NOT adjust any item labeled "DO NOT TOUCH"
  • When possible, insure the technology works before class time.
  • When in doubt, ask.

1. Turning System On

  1. Select the “Start” button on the welcome screen.  The system will take 40 seconds to power up and for the projector to fully turn on.
  2. The system is now powered up.  All of the components have power and are ready to be turned on as you need to use them.  The microphone in the center of the tabletop is also on. 

2. Operating the Technology

2.1 Microphone

  1. The microphone is already on if the system is on.
  2. The microphone is very sensitive to sound so please be aware that conversations near the microphone (and around the cabinet) will be picked up and could be heard anywhere in the room.
  3. The microphone is flexible and can be adjusted to point away from anyone standing behind the system if they wish to not be heard.

2.2 Volume

  1. The volume controls are on the right side of the touch screen.
  2. In order from top to bottom: blue arrow to increase volume, the preset volume button, the volume bar (shows how loud the volume is), the mute button, and the blue arrow volume down button.
  3. The volume is preset as is indicated by the blue bar icon.  To adjust the volume use the arrow buttons.
  4. To mute use the mute button.  To un-mute use the volume preset button and then adjust with the arrow buttons.

2.3 VCR Deck

  1. Select VCR on the left side of the touch screen.  When selected, the VCR button letters turn green, the Notevision logo turns to blue screen, a smaller screen appears on the touch panel screen, and the playback control buttons appear.
  2. The small screen allows you to see what is playing on the projector screen.  Touching the touch panel screen will make the VCR viewing window bigger.  Touching the screen again will return it to the original size.
  3. Open the left door on the front of the cabinet and insert VHS into the appropriate side of the deck.  Manually push the VHS tape in.  DO NOT USE THE PLAYBACK BUTTONS ON THE DECK.

2.4 DVD Deck

  1. Select DVD on the left side of the touch screen.  When selected the DVD button letters turn green, the Notevision logo changes to the DVD starting screen, and the DVD playback controls appear on the touch screen.
  2. Open the left door on the front of the cabinet and insert DVD into the appropriate side of the deck.  USE THE OPEN/CLOSE BUTTON TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE TRAY.
  3. DO NOT MANUALLY CLOSE THE TRAY AND DO NOT USE THE PLAYBACK BUTTONS ON THE DECK.

2.5 OPERATING PC & MAC

  1. Select the COMP button on the left side of the touch screen.  The Computers menu will appear.
  2. Select the desired computer button for whichever computer you wish to use.
  3. Turn on the PC or MAC.  The power buttons are located on the front of each unit (located on the right side of the cabinet).
  4. The desktop/boot up screen will appear on the projector screen and on the Viewsonic screen on the table top of the cabinet.
  5. Use the small black keyboard and the mouse on the pullout shelf right above the door on the right side of the cabinet.

2.6 LAPTOP

  1. Use the laptop cable (labeled) and the audio cable on the tabletop.  They are near the Viewsonic monitor and are coming up through the tabletop.  Plug the cables into your laptop.
  2. Select the COMP button.
  3. Select the Laptop button from the Computers menu.  The laptop desktop should show up on the projector screen ready to go.

2.7 DOCUMENT CAMERA

  1. Fold out the light and camera arms so they are fully extended.
  2. Select the DOC CAM button on the left of the touch screen.
  3. Turn on the Doc Cam (power switch is on the top right corner).
  4. Press the light buttons to turn the lights on.  The light arms will come on or if the backlit option is chosen the bottom light will come on.
  5. For best results, use the auto focus and white balance buttons when necessary.
  6. When you are finished turn the power off and fold down the camera and light arms.

3. Turning system off

  1. Make sure all components are shut off and the computers have been correctly shut down.
  2. Press the red “Turn System Off” button in the lower right of the touch screen.  A verification screen will appear in which you will be asked if you are sure you want to power down the system, choose yes.
  3. The system will take 100 seconds to fully turn off and the welcome screen will again be displayed when the system is off.
