Common Sense Reminders

  • When possible, insure the technology works before class time.
  • When in doubt, ask.

1. Operating the Technology

1.1 ViewSonic LCD Monitor

  1. All controls for the ViewSonic LCD Monitor are located under the lower right front edge of the unit.
  2. To start, press the Power button.  A green light will appear on the lower left front of the unit when the power is on.
  3. Press the Source button to select the appropriate component.  There are seven input options.  AV is the VHS Unit.  PC is the Gateway computer.  Wait until the Source Name appears on the screen before pressing the button for the next selection.
  4. Volume is adjusted with the + or – buttons.
  5. When finished, press the Power button located under the right front edge of the unit.  A red light will appear on the lower left front of the unit when the power is off.

1.2 VHS Unit

The VHS Unit will play NTSC, PAL, SECAM, M-PAL, and N-PAL VHS tapes. The VHS Unit is located on top of the Gateway PC.

  1. Press the Power Button on the front of the VHS Unit.
  2. Press the Source button on the ViewSonic LCD Monitor until "AV" appears on the upper left corner of the screen.
  3. Insert the media into the VHS Unit.  VHS tapes are manually pushed into the deck.
  4. Controlling VHS playback is done using the controls located on the face of the VHS Unit.
  5. When completed, press the Eject button on the VHS Unit to retrieve your tape.

1.3 Gateway (PC) Computer

  1. Leave the computer power turned on at all times.  When you are finished using the PC, Log Off but do not Shut Down.
  2. Press the Source button on the ViewSonic LCD Monitor to select the PC.  Stop when the Source Name “PC” appears on the upper left corner of the screen.
  3. Login and operate the PC using the keyboard and mouse located on the shelf under the ViewSonic LCD Monitor.
  4. Make certain that you Log Off of the PC when you are finished but DO NOT Shut Down the unit.

1.4 Displaying DVDs

DVDs are played in the Gateway (PC) Computer.  Region 1 (North American) DVDs are accepted.

  1. Leave the computer power turned on at all times.  When you are finished using the PC, Log Off but do not Shut Down.
  2. Press the Source button on the ViewSonic LCD Monitor to select the PC.  Stop when the Source Name “PC” appears on the upper left corner of the screen.
  3. Login and operate the PC using the keyboard and mouse located on the shelf under the ViewSonic LCD Monitor.
  4. To insert a DVD into the DVD Unit, press the Eject button on the front of the PC.  Place the DVD in the tray, then press the Eject button again to close the tray.
  5. A DVD menu will appear about 1 minute after the DVD is inserted into the PC.  All DVD control is accomplished through this DVD menu.
  6. Make certain that you Log Off of the PC when you are finished but DO NOT Shut Down the unit.
