1. System Power – On

If it's locked, the key (101T) can be picked up at the Old Main office.

The power switch to the Teaching Station is located inside the door on the top right.  If the Teaching Station is without power make sure it is plugged into the wall outlet.

2. Operating the Video/Data Systems

2.1 Projector

Push the Projector “ON” button on the Video Switcher.  The projector will take roughly 30 seconds to fully turn on.

2.2 Volume Control

The “Volume” control dial is located on the Video Switcher (directly below the Projector “ON/OFF” buttons) and controls the volume for the VCR/DVD combo unit, both computers, and, if present, a laptop.  This is the only functioning volume control in the cabinet.

2.3 VHS/DVD Combo Unit

Select “VCR” (upper left) on the Video Switcher.  To turn on the VHS/DVD Combo unit, press the power switch on the front of the deck.  Or, using the remote control located in the drawer, press the power button.  The playback format is normally automatically selected when media is inserted in the unit.  If necessary, there is a “DVD/VCR” button on the unit to select the desired playback format.  The remote may also be used to select the playback format.  To play either VHS tapes or DVDs use either the remote control or the playback controls located under the DVD or VHS slot.

2.4 Computers

Select the desired computer, “PC” or “Mac”, from the Video Switcher.  Turn on the desired computer.  The power button for the PC is on the front.  The power button for the Mac is in the back.  Do not pull out the Mac Mini to find the button.

2.5 Document Camera

Make sure the light arms and the camera arm are fully extended.  The Power button is the top button located on the right side of the Document Camera.  On the Video Switcher, select the “Doc Cam” button (bottom left).  To switch between the overhead lights (documents on regular paper) and the backlit option (transparencies), press the “Lamp” button on the Document Camera (right side).  Please allow the machine a few seconds to complete switching between each function.  For the best picture quality, press the Auto White Balance (“AWB” in the lower right) and Auto Focus (“AF” on the right side) buttons.  To turn off the Document Camera, simply press the power button.  Please fold down the light arms and camera arm when you are done.

2.6 Laptop Connection

Plug the video cable into the appropriate video out port on the back of your laptop.  Turn on the Document Camera and choose the “Doc Cam” button on the Video Switcher (bottom left).  Press the “Source” button (right side) on the Document Camera.  The red light below “PC” should illuminate.  For network and audio connections, plug the network and audio cables into the appropriate connections on your laptop.

3. System Power – Off

If necessary, turn off the computers using the computer’s menu in the normal manner.  Turn off any Teaching Station components that may still be on (e.g., the VCR/DVD Unit) with the power button on the component.  Turn off the Video/Data Projector by pressing the Projector “OFF” button in the Video Switcher for five seconds.  The Projector display will turn black, and Projector will start a “cool down” process.  The fans in the system will stay on as they continue to cool the system.  Return the remote control to the Teaching station.  (Failure to turn off the system in this order may cause data loss on the computers and/or damage to the projector.)
