Common Sense Reminders
- Do NOT adjust any item labeled "DO NOT TOUCH"
- When possible, insure the technology works before class time.
- When in doubt, ask.

1. System Power – On
If it's locked, the key (CH751) can be picked up at the Old Main office.
The SmartCart should always have power. If the SmartCart is without power make sure it is plugged into the wall outlet. The switch on the top of the SmartCart is disabled.
2. Operating the Video/Data Systems
2.1 Projector
Open the Projector mirror by pressing down on the black lock and then lifting up the lid. To turn on the Data/Video Projector, use the projector remote found in the SmartCart, point it at the projector mirror, then press and hold the “On” button for two seconds. Once activated, a light will shine from the lens of the Data/Video Projector. The Data/Video Projector will take approximately 1 minute to reach full brightness.
2.2 Volume Control
The Volume Control is located on top of the Smart Cart. It controls the volume for the DVD, the VHS, the PC and, if present, a laptop.
2.3 DVD
With the remote for the projector select “Input 4”. Point the remote directly at the projector mirror and press the “Input” button as many times as necessary. To turn on the DVD, press the power switch on the front of the unit. Or, using the remote control located in the SmartCart, press the power button. To play a DVDs use either the remote control for the DVD player or the playback controls located on the front of the DVD player.
2.4 VCR
With the remote for the projector select “Input 3”. Point the remote directly at the projector mirror and press the “Input” button as many times as necessary. To turn on the VCR, press the power switch on the front of the unit. Or, using the remote control located in the SmartCart, press the power button. To play a VHS tape use either the remote control for the VCR or the playback controls located on the front of the VCR.
2.5 PC
Select “PC” from the switch in the SmartCart. If necessary, using the remote for the projector, verify you are using “Input 1”. Point the remote directly at the projector mirror and press the “Input” button as many times as necessary. Turn on PC. The power button is on the front. The keyboard and the mouse are located on a pull out tray on the right-hand side of the SmartCart.
2.6 Document Camera
Select “DOC CAM” from the switch in the SmartCart. If necessary, using the remote for the projector, verify you are using “Input 1”. Point the remote directly at the projector mirror and press the “Input” button as many times as necessary. Make sure the light arms and the camera arm are fully extended. The Power button is located on the right side near the rear of the Document Camera. To switch between the overhead lights (documents on regular paper) and the backlit option (transparencies), press the “UPPER” button or the “BASE” button on the Document Camera control panel. Please allow the machine a few seconds to complete switching between each function. For the best picture quality press the Auto Focus (right front) button. Please fold down the light arms and camera arm when you are done.
2.7 Laptop Connection
Select “LAPTOP” from the switch in the SmartCart. If necessary, using the remote for the projector, verify you are using “Input 1”. Point the remote directly at the projector mirror and press the “Input” button as many times as necessary. Plug the video cable into the appropriate video out port on the back of your laptop. For network and audio connections, plug the network and audio cables into the appropriate connections on your laptop. The video, network and sound cables are accessible on top of the SmartCart.
3. System Power – Off
If necessary, turn off the PC using the computer’s menu in the normal manner. Turn off any SmartCart components that may still be on (e.g., DVD, VCR) with the power button on the component. Use the projector remote to turn off the projector. Point it at the projector mirror, then press and hold the “Off” button. Press the “Off” button a second time to confirm you really wish to turn it off. The display will turn black, and projector will start a “cool down” process. The fans in the system will stay on as they continue to cool the system. Return any remote controls to the SmartCart. (Failure to turn off the system in this order may cause data loss on the computer and/or damage to the projector.)
