Common Sense Reminders

  • Do NOT adjust any item labeled "DO NOT TOUCH"
  • When possible, insure the technology works before class time.
  • When in doubt, ask.

Projecting the VCR

  1. Turn on power to rack: red ON/OFF switch in the upper right hand corner of the rack
  2. Turn on the projector using the On button on the video switcher
  3. Turn on the VCR, insert the tape, and press play
  4. Push the VCR button on the video switcher
  5. Use the volume knob on the video switcher to adjust the volume

Projecting the Computer or a DVD Movie

DVDs can be played using the Mac computer
  1. Turn on power to rack: red ON/OFF switch in the upper right corner of the rack
  2. The Mac computer is the bottom-most component in the rack. Press the power switch near the "Power" label on the tower
    1. The Mac contains a DVD-ROM drive and can be used to play DVD movies. To do so, insert the DVD disc into the DVD-ROM drive. If the keyboard does not have an eject key (triangle key located on the upper right of the keyboard) press F12 to eject the CD-ROM drive
    2. Double-click on the “Apple DVD Player” alias on the dock. Click play on the round controller.
    3. Select “Hide Controller” from the Window menu and “Present Video on Screen” from the Video menu
    4. While a DVD is playing, wiggle the mouse to get the menus back so that you can use the Controls menu to Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, etc. a movie.
    5. When finished with the DVD, choose Exit from the File menu
    6. Use the volume knob on the Sony receiver to adjust volume for the computer or a DVD movie
  3. Turn on the projector using the On power button on the video switcher
  4. Push the Mac button on the video switcher, this will display the selected computer on the screen.
  5. Use the volume knob on the video switcher to adjust volume for the computer or a DVD movie
  6. When finished with the computer go to the Apple menu and select Shut Down

Using the Document Camera

  1. Turn on power to rack:  red ON/OFF switch in the upper right corner of the rack
  2. Turn on the Document Camera on the cart (power switch in the left side)
  3. Turn on the projector using the video switcher
  4. Press the Doc Cam button on the switcher
  5. Use the TELE and WIDE buttons on the document camera to zoom in or out on an object or text (for text to be legible, you will most likely need to zoom in; for best results, zoom in on an object until the surrounding white background is out of view)
  6. If an object or text is out of focus, push the AUTO FOCUS button

Projecting a Laptop

  1. Turn on power to rack:  red ON/OFF switch in the upper right corner
  2. Use the standard DB-15 monitor cable located on the top of the rack to connect to the back of the laptop (VIDEO OUT)
  3. Plug the Ethernet cable and audio cable on the cart into the laptop
  4. Turn on the laptop
  5. Turn on the projector using the power button on the remote (usually stored on the bottom of the rack next to the Mac) and press the Input 1 button
  6. On the video switcher strip press the button labeled Laptop

Turning Off the System

  1. To turn off the system, eject or remove any media, turn off any components in use. (For the Mac, go to the Special menu and select Shut Down)
  2. Turn off the rack using the red power switch in the upper right corner
  3. To turn off the projector, push the off button on switcher
  4. Return the remote to the bottom of the rack next to the Mac
