Science Center 170 Technology Desk Directions

Please be sure to read all directions carefully before attempting to use the technology desk.  We strongly recommend that you attend a training session or request a tutorial well in advance of your class.  To set up a tutorial or find out about training sessions, contact the IIT Helpdesk at x3830.  We also recommend that you take time to test out your materials prior to your class time.

To Display PC on the Projector:

  1. Turn power on for the projector (green button on remote control located next to PC on shelf)
  2. Turn the main power for the desk on (red button on top right of desk)
  3. Turn power on to the computer
  4. Turn on power for Sony receiver
  5. Push PC button on Sony receiver to get sound (and make sure CH2 button is selected)
  6. Use remote control and push the Input1, it will show at the top right of the large screen
  7. Push Selector button on switcher above computer until PC is selected
  8. Use the dial labeled Volume on the Sony receiver to adjust volume level for CDs, DVDs, MP3s, etc. played on the computer

To Display VHS Videos on the Projector:

  1. Turn power on for the projector (green button on remote control located on shelf next to the PC)
  2. Turn the main power for the desk on (red button on top right of desk)
  3. Turn on power for Sony receiver (and make sure CH2 button is selected)
  4. Push VCR button on Sony receiver
  5. Turn on power for Panasonic VCR
  6. Use the remote control and push the Input3 button, it will be displayed on the top right of the large screen
  7. Insert tape and push Play button on VCR
  8. Use the dial labeled Volume on the Sony receiver to adjust volume level for video playback

To Listen to Audio Tapes on the Receiver:

  1. Turn the main power for the desk on (red button on top right of desk)
  2. Turn on power for Sony receiver (and make sure CH button is selected)
  3. Push TAPE button on Sony receiver
  4. Turn on power for Sony tape deck
  5. Insert tape and push Play button on tape deck
  6. Use the dial labeled Volume on the Sony receiver to adjust volume level for audio playback

To Display Objects or Transparencies with the Elmo Document Camera

  1. Turn power on for the projector (green button on remote control located on shelf next to the PC)
  2. Turn the main power for the desk on (red button on top right of desk)
  3. Turn on Elmo Document Camera and make sure that the two buttons labeled MAIN are selected
  4. Use remote control and push the Input1 button, it will show on the top right of the large screen
  5. Push Selector button on switcher above computers until DOC CAM is selected

Turning off Equipment when Finished

  1. Turn off the Panasonic VCR, the Sony tape deck, and the Sony receiver with each of their respective power buttons, located on the top left of each one
  2. Turn off main power (red switch on the top right of the desk)
  3. Turn off the computer (by going to the Start Button and selecting Shut Down)
  4. To turn off the projector hit the green power button 2 times.  (Once the projector has been turned off, the fan will continue to run two minutes to cool down the bulb.  The projector cannot be turned back on during this two minute cool down period.)

Notes: 

  • Use either computer to play DVDs or audio CDs
  • To display a laptop through the projector, plug a standard DB15 monitor cable from the laptop to RGB1 on the back of the ELMO document camera.  Turn on the projector, turn on the desk's main power, turn on the document camera, and select RGB1 Input on the document camera.
