Common Sense Reminders

  • Do NOT adjust any item labeled "DO NOT TOUCH"
  • When possible, insure the technology works before class time.
  • When in doubt, ask.

  3. Turning Off the System

1. Turning on the System

  1. Turn on the power to the rack unit: switch labeled "POWER" in the upper right corner of the rack).
  2. Turn on the power to the projector: hold in the black button on rack labeled "DISPLAY POWER" and hold for 2 or 3 seconds. The green light and the selected input will blink for 20-30 seconds as the projector warms up.
  3. Press the "MUTE" button to blacken the screen when not using the technology. Press the "UMUTE" buttons on the display panel to the screen to the desired input.
  4. To use the Lights at the top of the rack, pull each light out and set the Light Power switch to the desired output "high or low."

2.0 Using/displaying the components

2.1 Computer

  1. Turn on the system as described in the previous section.
  2. Turn on the Macintosh computer on top of the desk.
  3. Push the "Computer" button on the top panel of the rack to display the computer.

2.2 Playing an Audio CD

  1. Turn on the computer as described in the previous section.
  2. Adjust the volume using the volume control on the top panel of the rack by turning the Volume button to the desired volume.
  3. Insert an audio CD into the CD-Rom Drive (it should automatically begin).

2.3 Using a Laptop Computer

  1. Turn on the system as described in the first section.
  2. Cables can found in the drawer. Plug the attached video cable into the back of the laptop (video out) and to the laptop input on the back of the counter.
  3. Plug the attached audio cable into the back of the laptop (audio out) and to the audio input on the back of the counter.
  4. Turn on the laptop.
  5. Push the "LAPTOP" button on the rack.

2.4 DVD/VCR

  1. Turn on the system as described in the first section.
  2. Turn on the VCR in the rack by pressing the "POWER" button.
  3. Push the "VCR" button on the Video switcher on the top shelf.
  4. Insert the VHS tape or DVD into the VCR/DVD player.
  5. Push the play button.
    The VCR controls are on the right side of the player and the DVD controls are on the left side of the player.
  6. Adjust "Volume" on the receiver as needed

2.5 ELMO Document Camera

  1. Turn on the system as described in the first section
  2. Turn on the ELMO document camera on top of the table by flipping the switch labeled "POWER"
  3. Unfold the two lights
  4. Release the lock button at the back left of the ELMO and raise the camera head to its full height
  5. Push the "POWER" button on the small LCD monitor on top of the document camera
  6. Push the "ELMO" button on the rack
  7. Place the object or text that you want to project on the glass of the camera
  8. Enlarge or reduce the size of a projected object by using the "TELE" and "WIDE" buttons on the ELMO
  9. If an object is out of focus, press the "AUTO FOCUS" button

3. Turning Off the System

  1. Turn off any piece of equipment that you were using
  2. Press and hold in the "DISPLAY POWER" button on the rack for 2-3 seconds (until the button blinks)
  3. The button will continue to blink as the projector cools down (approx. 2 minutes) and then go dim; it is VERY IMPORTANT that the projector be allowed to cool down
  4. Flip the main "POWER" switch in the upper right corner of the rack
