Common Sense Reminders

  • Do NOT adjust any item labeled "DO NOT TOUCH"
  • When possible, insure the technology works before class time.
  • When in doubt, ask.

1. Turning on the System

  1. Turn on the power to the rack unit:  switch labeled POWER in the upper right corner of the rack)
  2. Turn on the power to the projector:  hold in the red button on rack labeled DISPLAY POWER until it begins to blink (for 2 or 3 seconds).  The red button will continue to blink for 20-30 seconds as the projector warms up.

2. Using/Projecting a Component

2.1 ELMO Document Camera

  1. Turn on the ELMO document camera on top of the table by flipping the switch labeled POWER.
  2. Unfold the two lights.
  3. Release the lock button at the back left of the ELMO and raise the camera head to its full height.
  4. Push the POWER button on the small LCD monitor on top of the document camera.
  5. Push the Doc Cam button on the rack.
  6. Place the object or text that you want to project on the glass of the camera.
  7. Enlarge or reduce the size of a projected object by using the TELE and WIDE buttons on the ELMO.
  8. If an object is out of focus, press the AUTO FOCUS button.

2.2 Computer

  1. Turn on the Gateway computer on top of the table.
  2. Push the "Desktop Computer" button on the rack.
  3. To hear sound, push the power button (upper left corner) and push the AUX button on the Sony receiver in the rack.

2.3 Playing an Audio CD

  1. Turn on the computer as described in the previous section.
  2. Insert an audio CD into the DVD-Rom drive of the computer. It should automatically begin playing.

2.4 DVD

  1. Turn on the DVD/VCR in the rack.
  2. Push the VCR button on the rack.
  3. To hear sound, push the power button (upper left corner) and push the VIDEO button on the Sony receiver in the rack.
  4. Insert the DVD into the DVD drive.
  5. Push the play button on the DVD side of the player.
  6. Adjust MASTER VOLUME on the Sony receiver as needed.

2.5 VCR

  1. Turn on the DVD/VCR Combo in the rack.
  2. Push the DVD/VCR button on the rack.
  3. To hear sound, push the power button (upper left corner) and push the VIDEO button on the Sony receiver in the rack.
  4. Insert the tape into the VCR.
  5. Push the play button on the VCR side of the player.
  6. Adjust MASTER VOLUME on the Sony receiver as needed.

2.6 Laptop

  1. Plug the attached video cable into the back of the laptop (video out).
  2. Plug the attached audio cable into the back of the laptop (audio out).
  3. Turn on the laptop.
  4. Push the LAPTOP button on the rack.
  5. To hear sound, push the power button (upper left corner) and push the AUX button on the Sony receiver in the rack.

3. Turning Off the System

  1. Turn off any piece of equipment that you were using (including the Sony receiver)
  2. Press and hold in the red DISPLAY POWER button on the rack for 2-3 seconds (until the button blinks)
  3. The button will continue to blink as the projector cools down (approx. 2 minutes) and then go dim; it is VERY IMPORTANT that the projector be allowed to cool down
  4. Flip the main POWER switch in the upper right corner of the rack

4. Troubleshooting Tips

No Sound?

  • Make sure that the Sony receiver is on
  • Make sure that the MASTER VOLUME dial on the receiver is at an audible level
  • Make sure that the SPEAKERS button on the receiver is pushed in (i.e. on)
  • Make sure that the MUTING button is not on (i.e. not illuminated)
  • Make sure that the correct input on the Sony receiver is selected (VIDEO, AUX, etc.)
