Configuring Netscape Mail 7
Note: Netscape 7.x can be slow on older equipment. IIT recommends that you have at least a Pentium-II (PC) or a G3 (Mac) processor and 128MB of RAM before installing and running Netscape 7. If you have an older machine, consider using Netscape 4.7x instead.
Netscape Mail is a free piece of software used to easily view e-mail on your computer. To configure Netscape Mail for your account do the following.
- Launch Netscape Communicator 7, under the Tasks menu select "Mail & Newsgroups"
- Under the Edit menu select "Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings"
- This will open a new window, on the left side click on the button that says "Add Account"
- This will open a new window, make sure "Email account" is selected, then click Next
- Enter your name as you want it to appear and your St. Olaf e-mail account into the appropriate boxes, then click Next
- Select IMAP for the Incoming Server type, then enter your Server Name. Your Server Name consists of your St. Olaf username, followed by ".mail.stolaf.edu" (username.mail.stolaf.edu).
- If you are asked to enter an outgoing server name, type in "smtp.stolaf.edu". Click Next.
- Enter your St. Olaf username in the box, then click Next.
- This box allows you to configure how your account will appear to you on this computer, name your account however you would like then click Next.
- If all your configurations look correct, click Finish to import your account.
Netscape Mail should now be configured for use with your St. Olaf e-mail account. If you have any problems configuring Netscape please feel free to contact the HelpDesk at x3830.
