Setting up a Network Printer on Mac OS X
Setting up a printer on Mac OS X depends on the type of printer you are setting up:
Setting up a Departmental Printer on Mac OS X
- Go to the 'Print Center'. If this is not in the dock, you can find it under 'Macintosh HD', 'Applications', 'Utilities'.
- Click the 'Add' icon, or select 'Add Printer' from the 'Printer' menu.
- In the first dropdown menu that appears, select 'AppleTalk'.
- The second drop-down menu will be automatically adjusted for your academic area.
- Make sure 'Auto Select' is selected in the 'Printer Mode' menu. If you are selecting a printer other than a residence hall printer, select that printer's name from the list of available printers.
- Click 'Add'.



Setting up a Public Printer in Mac OS X
- Go to the 'Print Center'. If this is not in the dock, you can find it under 'Macintosh HD', 'Applications', 'Utilities'.
- Click the 'Add' icon, or select 'Add Printer' from the 'Printer' menu.
- In the first dropdown menu that appears, select 'IP Printing'.
- In the 'Printer Type' drop-down, select 'LPD/LPR'.
- In the 'Printer Address' field, enter 'pubprinters.stolaf.edu'.
- In the 'Queue Name' field, enter the name of the public printer (found on a label on the printer).
- Select the model of the printer (found on a label on the printer).
- Click 'Add'.
