Off-Campus File Access: Connecting From Your Home Macintosh Computer

Connecting to the campus Novell servers from a Macintosh requires the installation of a software package called Goliath. Goliath will enable you to connect your Mac to the servers and will make your files appear as if they were on your computer. If you have already installed Goliath on your Mac, you can skip to the Connecting from your Macintosh section.

  • Installing Goliath on MacOS 8.1 and above

Installing Goliath on MacOS 8.1 through 9.x

  1. Open your web browser
  2. Go to http://www.webdav.org/goliath/
  3. Click on ‘Installer for Classic MacOS’ and save it to your hard drive.
  4. Double-click on the Goliath Installer.
  5. Follow the instructions in the installer and perform an ‘Easy Install’.

Installing Goliath on Mac OS X

  1. Open your web browser
  2. Go to http://www.webdav.org/goliath/
  3. Click ‘DiskCopy archive for Mac OS X’ and save it to your hard drive.
  4. Double-click on the Goliath Installer.
  5. Follow the instructions in the installer and perform an ‘Easy Install’.

Connecting from your Macintosh

  1. Run the Goliath application from the Goliath folder.



  2. In the ‘New WebDAV Connection’ dialog box, enter the following information:

    URL: http://axel.stolaf.edu/oneNet/NetStorage (The field is case-sensitive; enter it exactly as it appears.)

    User Name: your username

    Password: your password



  3. Click OK. A window will appear with your St. Olaf files.



  4. Select ‘Save Connection As’ from the File menu.
  5. Name this connection St Olaf Files and save it in an appropriate place. This will save a connection file that you can use to connect to your St. Olaf files at a later date.



To reconnect to your St. Olaf Files, double-click on the St. Olaf Files icon.

Changing your password

The Goliath connection file created above saves the password you enter within the connection file. When you change your password at St. Olaf, the password saved in this document will no longer work and you will receive an error.

To change your password,

  1. Click OK in the above dialog box.
  2. Select ‘Edit Connection Settings…’ from the Edit menu.
  3. Type in your username and password.



  4. Click OK.
  5. Select ‘Save Connection’ from the File menu.
