Setting up a Screen Saver
Using Windows XP
- Right click anywhere on the windows desktop.
- On the pop-up menu, choose Properties.

- Click on the Screen Saver tab to bring up the screen saver options.

- Under the Screen saver options, use the drop down box to choose a sceen saver. For more settings specific to each individual screen saver, click Settings.
- Select a number under the Wait category to choose the amount of required idle time before the screen saver automatically activates. We recommend 5 to 10 minutes.
- Click Apply to save these changes.
Note: If you are walking away from your computer, you can activate the screen saver immediately by pressing Ctrl - Alt - Del and then choosing Lock Workstation.
Note about college-owned PC laptops: If you put it to sleep aand then move to a different location, you may have trouble unlocking the PC when it wakes up. In that case change the From: pull-down box from eDirectory to Windows and then enter your login information.

Using Mac OS X
- Click on the apple menu button in the top left corner of your screen.
- Choose System Preferences.

- Click on Security.

- Make sure to check the Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver box for optimal security settings.

- Close the window to save the changes. Return to the System Prefences window.
- Click the Screen Saver tab.

- Select a screen saver from the list, or select the Use random screen saver checkbox to see a different screen saver each time the screen saver is initiated.
- Drag the Start screen saver slider to select the amount of required idle time before the screen saver automatically activates. We recommend 5 to 10 minutes.
- To set the ability to start your screensaver simply by pulling the cursor to a corner of the screen, click Hot Corners.

- From here you can select an action for each corner. For example, in the picture above rolling over the bottom left corner would start the screen saver. Click OK to apply these changes. Now if you are walking away from your computer, you can activate the screen saver immediately by rolling over the respective corner.
- For more screen saver options click the Options button in the Desktop & Screen Saver menu. For information on more advanced techniques, click on the ? on the bottom right corner of this menu.
- Close the menu to save the changes.
