Setting up a VPN Connection on Windows Vista

To configure a VPN connection to the St. Olaf network:

  1. Click on the Start menu and then click Connect To.
  2. Near the bottom, click on Set up a connection or network.



  3. Select Connect to a workplace and click the Next button.

  4. Click Use my Internet connection (VPN).

  5. For the Internet address: enter vpn.stolaf.edu.
  6. For the Destination name: enter St. Olaf VPN.
  7. Check Don't connect now; just set it up so I can connect later and click Next.

  8. Enter your username and click Create.

Important security note: When configuring a VPN connection on a computer that is shared by multiple users (e.g. your home computer), do not check the "Remember this password" box - this will allow any user of the computer to connect to St. Olaf network.

  1. Once the connection is created, click Close.

Using the St. Olaf VPN connection

To connect to the St. Olaf VPN:

  1. Click on the Start Menu and click Connect To.
  2. Select St. Olaf VPN from the list and click Connect.

  3. Enter your username and password when prompted.

Important security note: When configuring a VPN connection on a computer that is shared by multiple users (e.g. your home computer), do not check the "Remember this password" box - this will allow any user of the computer to connect to St. Olaf network.

To disconnect from the St. Olaf VPN:

  1. Click on the Start Menu and click Connect To.
  2. Click on St. Olaf VPN and click Disconnect.
