Setting up a VPN Connection on Windows XP

To configure a VPN connection to the St. Olaf network:

1. Right-click My Network Places and select Properties.
   
   
   
   
2. Double-click on New Connection Wizard. Click Next.
3. Select Connect to the network at my workplace and click Next.
   
   
   
   
4. Select Virtual Private Network connection and click Next.
   
   
   
   
5. For the Company Name enter St. Olaf VPN and click Next.
   
   
   
   
6. For the host name, enter vpn.stolaf.edu.
   
   
   
   
7. Create the connection for My use only and click Next.
   
   
   
   
8. Check Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop. Click Finish.
   
   
   
   
9. When promted, enter your username and password and click Connect to test the connection.

Important security note: When configuring a VPN connection on a computer that is shared by multiple users (e.g. your home computer), do not check the "Save password" box - this will allow any user of the computer to connect to St. Olaf network.

Using the St. Olaf VPN connection

To connect to the St. Olaf VPN:

1. Double-click on the St. Olaf VPN icon on your desktop.
2. Enter your username and password and click Connect.

Important security note: When configuring a VPN connection on a computer that is shared by multiple users (e.g. your home computer), do not check the "Save password" box - this will allow any user of the computer to connect to St. Olaf network.

To disconnect from the St. Olaf VPN:

1. Double-click on the St. Olaf VPN icon on your desktop.
2. Click the Disconnect button.
