Laptop Security

Laptop theft is one of the most common ways protected and confidential data is stolen.  Laptop users must not store any protected or confidential data on their laptops.  If protected or confidential data absolutely must be on the laptop, the laptop must be password protected and the data must be in an encrypted format.

Laptops should be never be left unattended.  Offices with laptops must be locked if unattended. When traveling the laptop case must always be at the user’s side.  The laptop should never be left in a vehicle; if it must be left in the vehicle, it must be locked in the trunk.  If a laptop is stolen or damaged, the user may be responsible for paying for part of the replacement cost.  If a laptop is stolen, report it immediately to the police and to the immediate supervisor.  You must also contact IIT to get the critical asset information on the laptop that is needed by the local law enforcement agency for their investigation.
