Administration Building Data/Voice Wiring

Beginning on February 2, 2004, the Administration Building will be re-wired to accommodate current standards for data, voice and video. The company that is performing the work will be working after business hours, starting at 5:00 PM. This should minimize the interruptions to college staff. However, some furniture will need to move away from walls to accommodate their schedule.

The plan is to start with the 3rd floor during the first week, move down to the west end of the 2nd floor, continue with the entire 1st floor by week 3 or 4 and finish with the east end of the 2nd floor. The entire process will most likely be completed around Spring Break.

We will not disrupt any services until they can be cut over from the old wiring to the new. At that time, some minimal disruptions lasting only a few minutes might occur. Some re-configurations of networks may also occur that will require IIT staff to change certain parameters on the PCs and printers in these areas. Again, we don't anticipate much more than a few minutes for each.

These projects are difficult to schedule with complete confidence due to unforeseen difficulties or even changes as needed to fulfill the project standards. We thank those affected for their patience and understanding.

  Related Information

The Administration building is one of our last buildings with substandard wiring for data needs. In the master plan of things we still have others to do, but this building has barely been functional with respect to data network speeds and locations of networking wall jacks. The improvement will be noticeable and, more importantly, efficient in terms of both future needs and staff time it is consuming to keep running.
