Document Imaging

Document imaging is a generic term that applies to a system which is capable of replicating commonly-used documents. It often describes computer software that captures, stores and reprints images, and, also, helps with document workflow and management. You can think of it as a gigantic virtual filing cabinet containing scanned images of the paper documents that were once stored in physical filing cabinets, and electronic files like Word documents or Excel spreadsheets.

Last year, several offices on campus saw demonstrations from document imaging vendors and helped IIT select ImageNow for our document imaging implementation. We've already begun the process and have had several preliminary calls with ImageNow to define the scope of the initial project and to begin server installation and setup.

Wendy Woitalla and Jennie Moberg will be attending training during March to learn the system in-depth. When they return, they will be working with the offices in the Advancement division to implement ImageNow and integrate it with Millennium, our prospect, alumni, and giving tracking system. Once this initial phase is complete, other departments will be added to the system as time and funding permit.
