IIT Summer Projects PreviewSummer is one of IIT's busiest times. Upgrades, new computers, installation of different systems, programming projects, classroom changes, etc. all happen during the summer. While many of the projects are behind the scenes, there are a few "big ticket" items you should be aware of and that you'll see when you arrive back in the Fall. Holland Hall 205 Upgrade The Holland Hall 205 computing lab will receive new computers and a new SPSS license to cover all of the computers in the lab. In addition, if funding is available, a new projector will be purchased and the layout of the lab will be changed for a better teaching environment. Classroom Technology Updates Technology installations will be put in the remaining four classrooms that currently have nothing. Additionally, other classrooms will receive numerous upgrades to help standardize the classroom technologies across campus. This means that you can move from one classroom to another without having to learn a new system each time. Rolvaag Library 115 Conversion Rolvaag Library 115 (the Den) will be rearranged over the summer to convert the lab into a combination public lab and teaching space. There have been several requests for a larger computer teaching classroom and the Den has enough computers for most situations. When the lab isn't reserved for a class, it will be open for general use. The Rolvaag 250 and 477 computer classrooms will still be available for classes. Moodle Upgrade In June or early July, Moodle will be upgraded to the latest version. Several new features and improvements will be included in the upgrade. Watch your e-mail for more details and information. Rolvaag 330/329 Expansion The Rolvaag Library 330 area (Media Lab) has seen an incredible increase in usage over the last year. Not only are the multimedia workstations in high-demand, but the group workstations are one of the most popular features of the room. To help meet that demand, IIT and the Library are expanding the 330 Media Lab. Room 329 (where some reference materials are now stored) will be used to expand the number of computers available for portfolio and group projects. ContentDM ContentDM, an digital asset management and searchable database system, will be rolled out this summer to a limited number of user groups. If testing goes well, the system will be available to additional campus users and disciplines. ContentDM is also being used by other Minnesota libraries, Carleton, NITLE, and several larger universities and corporations to help manage their photos and other digital media. Library Wiring Rolvaag Library will have most of its old wiring and data connections replaced over the summer. This will make it easier to expand computing areas and the wireless network.
