Evening Computing Assistance Moved to Rolvaag 330In the past few years, the number of calls and requests for help at the IIT Helpdesk has been declining to just a couple of calls each night. At the same time, the demand for help from IIT’s evening Ask IIT service desk in Rolvaag Library 330 (Media Lab) has been skyrocketing. The Ask IIT service desk was established to provide students with computing help with a focus on providing help with electronic portfolios, video projects and other multimedia projects. To better meet the needs of our evening users and make the most efficient use of our student work budget, IIT has increased the number of Media Lab Assistants and have increased the hours of operation of the Ask IIT service desk in Rolvaag 330. At the same time we have closed the evening Helpdesk service. What does this mean for your students or perhaps yourself? The most noticeable difference is that the calls to the Helpdesk after 5:00 p.m. will go directly to voice mail. The Media Lab Assistants working at the Ask IIT station are checking voice mail every half hour and return calls or send e-mail responses to the questions they can answer. If questions can’t be answered, the issue is turned over to the morning Helpdesk staff. The Ask IIT station does not have a direct line so you need to call the IIT Helpdesk number (x3830) The Helpdesk is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The Ask IIT service desk is open Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. As with any of the IIT services, if you aren’t happy with the service you get or feel that it simply took too long for someone to respond to your question or problem, let us know! IIT works to provide the best customer service we can. If we fail, we want to know so that we can work to improve. You can send your complaints (and even compliments) to lembke@stolaf.edu. |
