Classroom Information Now Available on the Web

By Roberta Lembke, Director of Academic Computing

Last spring, Dean Pence appointed a team of faculty and staff to review and analyze the current learning and teaching facilities on campus and to develop recommendations and strategies for the long-term maintenance and enhancement of those facilities.

As part of the team's work over the summer, the ACC participated in a campus-wide inventory and assessment of the actual teaching spaces. John Campion from the ACC, Jim Stanoch from Media Services, and Gregg Menning from Facilities went to every classroom to inventory the features, furnishings, and equipment in each room as well as make an initial assessment of the quality of the paint, flooring, etc.

While the inventory data is critical to the work of the committee, the ACC felt that this information also could be very useful to the St. Olaf community.

We placed the information in a database that can be accessed via the World Wide Web. Through the Web you will be able to find detailed information about classrooms, such as room dimensions, whether a particular classroom is air conditioned, what types of chairs and tables are available, what types of technologies are installed in the room--overheads, VCR's, computer-display systems, speakers, etc.

To gain access to the database, go to the ACC's home page

http://www.stolaf.edu/services/acc/

and click on the link to "Classroom and Lab Features and Information."

Please keep in mind that we have not completed the final verification of this information and have a few other key pieces of data that we need to find and include. If you find errors or omissions, please send an e-mail note to campion. We also ask that if you add or change any features or services available in any learning or teaching space to please let John Campion know immediately so he can update the database.

If you have questions regarding the work of the team assigned to review and analyze the campus learning and teaching spaces, please contact me (e-mail lembke) or the team's leader, Mike Leming (leming).
