Criteria for Annual Software Licensing Updates
Information and Instructional Technologies takes responsibility for updating all system software and word processing software on all IIT-supported computers. IIT also takes responsibility for updating software residing on the public servers. Other software updates, such as office software, lab-specific software, etc., is the responsibility of the academic department. Funding may be available through IIT and should be requested as part of the department's hardware request.
Requests will be ranked according to the following criteria:
- Category 1.
-
The software is available via IIT's central UNIX, Macintosh, or Novell servers and is available to the St. Olaf community from any location on campus. These requests are eligible for full funding.
- Category 2.
-
The software is available via the department's server and is available on a regular basis to the St. Olaf community. These requests will be eligible for partial funding (up to 3/4 of the annual costs).
- Category 3.
-
The software is restricted to use by students within that department or class. These requests will be eligible for partial funding; departments will have to use funds from the Academic Software Budget to make up the difference. These requests will be eligible for limited funding, not to exceed 1/3 of the annual costs of the software.
- Category 4.
-
The software is restricted to faculty use only. These requests are not eligible for funding through this program. Departments must use their funds from the Academic Software Budget.
