Burning the CD or DVD
Open Toast Titanium to begin the process of backing up your poster. |
| Click on the data tab to create an archival backup. |
Drag and drop the files you would like on the disc into the main window as shown below.
Name the disc appropriately by clicking on the disc name and typing your own in, as shown below.
Depending on the size of the files you would like to burn (700MB and less fit on a CD, 4.3GB and less fit on a DVD) use the drop-down menu by the large red button to choose the appropriate type of disc to burn with. |
| Click the large red button and press Record in order to burn the disc. |
Creating the CD or DVD Label
In order to create a label it is necessary that the poster be shrunk down into a thumbnail. Open the poster with Photoshop. |
| Navigate to the Layers Window and click on the small drop-down menu icon in order to view the layer options. |
Flatten the image so that it is no longer layered. |
| Copy the disc label template from the MDC server onto your desktop. This keeps anyone from accidentally writing onto the template. |
Open the disc label template in Illustrator. |
The Disc layout looks like this:
Double click on one of the elements of the layout to enter the editing mode. Copy and paste your flattened poster from Photoshop into Illustrator. Resize the poster such that it fits into one of the boxes on the label. If there is only one poster on the CD, delete the unnecessary border and text. Update the "Poster Title" and the date so they are accurate. Click outside of any of the elements of the disc label, and the disc on the bottom will update to reflect the changes you have made on the top. If you only need to print one label, simply delete the bottom set of elements. Print the labels, being sure to not scale the media to print. Finally, delete the template from your desktop so it doesn't ever overwrite the master template on the shared drive.
Archiving the Disc
Choose the correct binder and store a copy of the disc in the proper page of disc sleeves. If the correct folder doesn't exist, start a new one and label it accordingly. If there is no more room in the folder, add another page of disc sleeves. If there are too many disc sleeves in a binder, start a "part two" of an existing section (IIT
& MDC have several binders already). Thank you for helping keep the MDC clean and organized!
