How to Do Wide Format Printing

  1. Go to File, Print
  2. Choose the printer named Canon W8400WP
  3. Click Properties to the right of the printer name
  4. Select the Page Setup Tab once the Cannon Printer Properties window opens
  5. The first option of that tab is Page Size. Look through the drop-down menu to check if the print size you want is already listed there
    1. If it is, select it
    2. If not, click out of the drop-down menu and at the bottom of the window, click Size Options
      1. To the left is the same list of sizes as before. To the right are options for creating a new print size. Type in a name for your new print size at the top. Using the dimensions as the name (eg. 42x30) is helpful for future use
      2. Skip down to Width and Height and fill in the dimensions you want (I like to make the domensions 1 inch more than the end size if possible. With 42x30 this is not possible because the maximum width is 42".) When done correctly, there will be no white border around the image when cut and the image won't need to be scaled down much.
      3. Click Add.If it complains that there's no more room for another size, select a useless-looking print size from the list on the left and Delete it. Then re-enter values as necessary and Add again.
      4. Click Ok
  6. Once you are back in the Page Setup Tab, find your new print size in the drop-down menu and select it
  7. Skip down to Orientation
    1. If the image to be printed is longest vertically, then select Portrait and don't check the rotate page 90 degrees box
    2. If the image is to be printed is longest horizontally, then select Landscape. However, if it's longest side (aka width) is shorter or equal to 42", then also check the rotate 90 degrees box
    3. Click OK
  8. Once you're back to the regular Print... window, make your regular specifications (print rage, copies, etc) and then click Preview to check how it will look. If needed, click Print... at the top of the Preview window and check the Scale to fit paper box
  9. If things are not quite looking right, try messing with the orientation found in Print, Properties, Page Setup Tab
