These files are large and will take some time via modem. They show the nature of our lands, and some of the options for handling the desired greenbelt. St. Olaf has seen this greenbelt as a buffer from suburban incursion from the north for the campus.
- This diagram illustrates the nature of the developable lands
Options A, B and C illustrate options for development of campus lands as greenbelt. The fourth link, entitled "Northfield Hospital/St. Olaf College Site Proposal" is an exciting recent development. Follow the link to see a narrative of the history of the proposal and an illustration tha more fully explains how this site might work for a community medical campus.
Aspects of any of these plans may work just fine with another option. It is important to note that some options, particularly golf, are presented so that the college can show potential for development that is most in keeping with the notion of our lands as greenbelt. We need to recognize that there will be pressure to develop some of our lands, and some will be for development of things we do not want as greenbelt. We hope to control the future of these lands by generating options that are best for the college. While we feel most strongly about Option A, Options B and C should regarded as roughly equal to each other. - Option C

The lands marked as desired acquisitions are just that. There is no plan in place to work toward actually acquiring them, rather, a recognition that owning the contiguous lands would present some advantage for the college.
