Detailed planning for the Tostrud Center was initiated during December of 2000. A group came together to confirmn the program needs that had been expressed by wellness, physical education and athletics during the development of the Framework Plan. The key facility requirements at that time were a modern indoor track, an improved natatorium, enhanced fitness and wellness facilities, and an ice arena. When the Tostrud's expressed an interest in helping to improve facilities for recreation, wellness, physical education, and athletics, they also asked the College to confirm the highest need.
The Framework Plan task force, as well as a group from physical education and athletics, worked on the issue and confirmed that a field house was the best way to meet these directives. This is being addresed in the construction of the Tostrud Center.
