The spectacular scenery and rich Incan heritage of Peru provide the framework for our exploration of this remarkable country. The journey starts at 11,000 feet in Cusco, the Incan capital noted for cobblestone streets, majestic cathedrals and the ancient ruin of Sacsayhuaman. We have many opportunities to learn from the Peruvian people and offer optional service-related visits to orphanages and hospitals. Our travel includes the lush Urbamba sacred valley, the Ollantaytambo fortress and a visit to the Willoq people in their Urbambo mountain village. From Ollantaytambo we ascend the magical Machu Picchu. We also cruise on the high altitude tropical Lake Titacaca and visit Reed Island, home to the Uros people. On our way back to Lima we visit Arequipa, with its magnificent Spanish architecture, inactive volcano and deep canyons. These last experiences will provide a fitting end to a rich immersion in the history, geography and people of Peru.
