Depart Minneapolis
Full day of science lectures on the University of Minnesota campus. Topics include basic public health concepts, bacterial microbiology, immunology, immunization theory and development, and infectious disease threats. Group flight departs Minneapolis in the evening.
Saturday, June 21
Arrive in Paris (D)
Arrive in Paris in the early to mid-afternoon. Transfer in private motor coach to the hotel. One-hour walking tour to acquaint us with the neighborhood. Group dinner and introductions.
Sunday, June 22
An Overview of Paris (B)
Morning free with the option to attend mass at Notre Dame Cathedral. Lunch on your own followed by a city tour by motor coach providing an overview of Paris and its history. Remainder of the day free with dinner on your own.
Monday, June 23
19th-century French Medicine (B, D)
Seminars on early 19th-century French medicine including the contributions of René Laennec, followed by a visit to one of the first modern Western hospitals. Lunch on your own and afternoon free. Group dinner followed by a reception at the French Academy of Medicine.
Tuesday, June 24
Germ Theory (B)
Seminars on scientist and national hero Louis Pasteur, the origin of the germ theory and rabies and/or anthrax, followed by a visit to the Institut Pasteur. Remainder of the day free with lunch and dinner on your own.
Wednesday, June 25
Diarrheal Illnesses and Sanitation (B, D)
Seminars on diarrheal illnesses, sanitation and the contributions of John Snow. A guided tour of the famous Parisian sewer system follows. Lunch on your own and afternoon free. Group dinner and an evening performance.
