Depart Minneapolis for Spain.
Monday, June 2
Arrive in Sevilla (Seville) (D)
Upon arrival in Sevilla, we are met by our national guide and coach driver, who will stay with us throughout the program. Transfer in private coach to the hotel. Group dinner.
Tuesday, June 3
Sevilla: From Muslim to Christian City (B, L)
Breakfast at hotel, followed by a seminar. Walking tour of the major World Heritage Sites (WHS), Reales Alcázares, cathedral and Giralda Tower. Group lunch at a restaurant in the Barrio de Santa Cruz (old Jewish Quarter). Visit the Archive of Indies (WHS), followed by remainder of the day free with dinner on your own. Evening: optional book club meeting — The Seville Communion (by Antonio Pérez-Reverte).
Wednesday, June 4
Córdoba: Muslim Legacy in Spain Concert (B, L)
Following breakfast, travel by private coach to Córdoba, the capital of the Muslim world in the 10th and 11th centuries. There we will tour the Great Mosque (Córdoba’s World Heritage Site) and the Jewish Quarter. Group lunch in Córdoba or en route to Úbeda (approximately 3½ hours’ drive). Dinner on your own. Evening: attend the St. Olaf Orchestra concert.
Thursday, June 5
Renaissance Úbeda
Guided tour of central Úbeda, a World Heritage Site. Group lunch. Travel by private coach to Valencia (about 2 to 2-½ hours with a rest stop). Dinner on your own and evening free.
Friday, June 6
Valencia’s Legacy Concert (B, L)
Breakfast at hotel, followed by a walking city tour, including “La Lonja de la Seda” (WHS), the Central Market and Museum of Ceramics. Group lunch and afternoon free. Dinner on your own before the St. Olaf concert in the evening.
Saturday, June 7
Valencia: From El Cid to the City of Arts and Sciences (B, D)
Breakfast at hotel, followed by a seminar. Visit the City of Arts and Sciences (Oceanográfic/Science Museum). Lunch on your own and afternoon free. Option: tour Lladró factory. Evening: travel by private coach to to La Albufera for a paella dinner and possible sunset boat ride.
Sunday, June 8
Spanish Cuisine and its Muslim “Roots” (B, L)
After breakfast at hotel, travel by private coach to Elche (approximately 3-½ hours with a rest stop). Visit El Palmeral and El Palmeral Museum (WHS). Group lunch in Elche. Continue by private coach to Granada (approximately 2-½ hours with a rest stop). Dinner on your own and evening free.
Monday, June 9
The Meeting of Islamic and Christian Architecture (B, L)
Breakfast at hotel, followed by a visit to the Alhambra and Generalife Gardens (WHS). Group lunch. Remainder of the day free with dinner on your own. Evening: optional book club meeting — The Tales of the Alhambra (by Washington Irving).
Tuesday, June 10
Rural Spain (B, D)
Breakfast at hotel. Visit the Royal Chapel (tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella), followed by a visit to the old Muslim silk exchange in Alcaicería and free time. Lunch on your own and free time. Farewell group dinner.
Wednesday, June 11
Depart for United States (B)
Breakfast at the hotel and transfer by private coach to the airport.
