Interview questions for Northfield Reads & Counts and
the Off-Campus Work Study Program Participants
Name: Mike Winterfeldt ’11
Hometown: Belle Plaine MN
I work for the Northfield Community Services Office as an office assistant. performing office type jobs, clerical work to make the community service director’s job a little easier. I liked the opportunity to work off-campus in an office setting ,and helping in whatever way I can. I enjoy working for the community service office and developing friendships with the workers. Working off-campus allows you to experience work that is non-campus related and it is really fun working with different people.
I knew the site supervisor before working in the office and working there really offered me a chance to develop a friendship with her and others in the office, which has been really fun. This experience gives me valuable input into work in a community service office. I really learned a lot about typical office work, which is valuable because I can see myself working in an office, even a community service office in the future.
I work ten hours a week. Working provides a way for me to study more efficiently and balance my time. I like going to work and I think the people at the Community Service Office enjoy having me there because I do the jobs they don’t want to do, and have fun doing it.
St. Olaf makes it easy to gain an off-campus work-study position because they try in every way to help you with any obstacles because an off-campus work study position is a really good learning experience.
I hope to leave the office with a good reputation as a worker and a person. I hope to accomplish this by working hard and asserting myself in the office.
