When I watched a video clip produced by Kansas State University students recently that showed the number of hours students spend each day doing everything from sleeping to surfing the Web to studying, I wasn’t surprised that it all added up to 26.5 hours a day. Like the students in this video clip, St. Olaf students pack each day with a full schedule of studying, working and volunteering. To get it all done, they have mastered the art of multitasking. But how much is too much? And how can we make sure we’re there for students when they do take on too much?

Software provides new way to prepare for job, grad school interviews
A new software program called InterviewStream enables students to record themselves responding to interview questions and review their answers to find areas that need improvement. "The program is great for relieving that initial anxiety that comes with a formal interview," says Betsy Volkman '09.

Men's cross country team sees champion, coach of the year
First-year head coach Phil Lundin has been named MIAC cross-country coach of the year while individual champion Dubuol Ruon '11 became athlete of the year after each helped St. Olaf to a team title at the MIAC Championships.

Minnesota Orchestra premieres Merritt composition
The Minnesota Orchestra recently premiered a new piece by St. Olaf Assistant Professor in Music Theory and Composition Justin Merritt -- one of seven composers featured during the performance. "Merritt's piece was the standout," concluded the St. Paul Pioneer Press review.

New building honors old wood
Trees that were removed during the construction of Regents Hall of Natural and Mathematical Sciences have been turned into conference room tables and benches that line the new building's corridors. St. Olaf Cabinetmaker Gregg Menning made the pieces, which feature a beautiful, knotty grain.
