Leadership Opportunities in Residence Life
There are dozens of ways to get involved on the St. Olaf campus. One of the best and easiest ways to connect with other students is to be active in the community where you live. Whether you're learning leadership skills or working to improve the resources at our front desks, these opportunities in Residence Life may appeal to you.
Student Staff Positions for 2008-2009
The application and hiring processes for our student staff positions for 2008-2009 begin January 25th. Applications are available online starting in January and due to the Residence Life office by noon on February 26th. Interviews will be held in March.
Junior Counselor - Third-year students who work in pairs to build community in first-year residence halls.
Resident Assistants - Third- or fourth-year students who build community in upper-class residence halls.
Returning Staff Positions for 2008-2009
Senior Resident Assistants - Fourth-year returning staff members who play a leadership role in their hall.
Student Hall Coordinators - Fourth-year returning staff members who advise and counsel a Hall Council and student staff.
In addition, we have student staff members who work in administrative roles on an hourly basis. The application and hiring processes for our Hall Receptionist staffs for 2008-2009 will begin April 1st. Applications will be available online and due to the Residence Life office April 24th by noon.
Apply to be a Hall Receptionist - Students hired to greet guests and provide resources at the front desk of their residence hall.
Apply to be a Building Assistant - Students who manage the day-to-day operations of the residence hall and the front desks.
Apply to be the Inter Hall Council Chair person - The chairperson sets the IHC agenda for the week in conjunction with the advisor, runs the weekly IHC meetings, represents IHC on student senate, and does the follow-up work with IHC business. The IHC chairperson is also a resource person for the hall councils; helping the councils develop into strong leadership environments.
Residence Life Summer Staff
The applications for Summer Resident Assistant and summer hall receptionist positions will be available at the summer housing site about 2/3 down under "Summer Employment Opportunities".
Professional Staff- The Residence Life professional staff members work full-time to manage on-campus housing at St. Olaf.
