Eligibility for campus housing
Students wishing to reside in St. Olaf housing over the summer must be working for the college, enrolled in summer classes or receiving academic credit at an internship. We are not able to guarantee housing to students not meeting one of the previous criteria.
Facilities are non air-conditioned
Summer housing facilities for St. Olaf students will be in Rand Hall for Summer 2008. This is a non air-conditioned facility. A non air-conditioned facility is offered because the housing cost to the student is much lower for non air-conditioned housing on campus. Students wanting air-conditioned housing will need to obtain housing off campus. A book of off campus housing options is located at the Residence Life Office (Administration Building Room 127).
Medical requests for air conditioning will be evaluated on an individual basis. In order to submit a medical request you will need to provide updated written documentation in the form of a letter from your doctor detailing your symptoms and ailments regarding your medical situation. The recommendation must be more than a prescription recommending air conditioning. All requests and paperwork must be turned in to the Residence Life Office prior to May 14th. Medical requests made after May 14th will not be considered. Students that are granted medical requests involving air conditioners will be housed together.
Dates of Occupancy
Students wishing to reside in St. Olaf housing between May 27 and August 21, 2008 must submit a Summer Housing Application to the Residence Life Office by May 14, 2008. Space is limited. You may be turned down for housing if you apply after May 14, 2008. After May 14 to apply for summer housing please email mcdowell@stolaf.edu
Students approved to remain on campus between August 21st-September 1st will move to early arrival housing in Ytterboe Hall on Friday, August 15th. All arrangements must be made with the Director of Residence Life by August 1, 2008. There is an additional charge of $8.50 per night ($10.00 if in a single room). Room Assignment
Each student will receive an assignment upon check-in. Some single rooms are available at a cost of $10.00 per night, no one will be guaranteed a single room. Priority of single requests will be to students enrolled in summer school.
Room requests will be based on the following:

2. Will live in Rand during the fall of the 08-09 academic year
3. Mutual requests of roommate(s)
Rand does have 22 quads (one room with an attached bathroom) that people will be housed in. Please consider this option if you know 2 or 3 other students staying in Rand this summer.
Policies
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible and mature manner. It is expected that all students at St. Olaf College will comply with regulations as defined in the code of conduct while they are students, employees, or residents at St. Olaf. One of the concerns in the summer is the high usage of electricity in the building due to the heat - anyone found with an air conditioner in their room will be asked to leave summer housing.
Vehicles
Students living in summer housing may retain an automobile on campus, but must obtain a parking permit through the Parking Office. Permits are also required for motorcycles and mopeds. Parking during summer school is in the designated student parking areas and all vehicles must be registered.
Kitchen
Rand Hall does provide limited kitchen facilities that allow students to cook their own meals. Cooking appliances are prohibited in residence hall rooms.
Storage
Students may store their belongings in the Rand Hall Storage Room as space permits on a first-come, first-serve basis before the end of the spring semester. Storage will be open May 14-21 from 8-10 p.m. When you arrive at Rand Hall during the posted hours, inform the hall staff person working that you will be a summer resident.
At the end of each summer term, arrangements can be made through the Residence Life Office deposit belongings in the storage room (if space is available) of the residence hall in which you will reside during the 2008-2009 school year.
