Academic Advising
Each new student is assigned a faculty adviser to assist with program planning, course selection and academic difficulties.
First-year students should keep their initial adviser while taking a variety of courses and until they decide upon a major field of study.
A transfer student usually will be assigned a faculty adviser from the discipline in which the student has expressed an interest.
The advising system offers a good opportunity to get to know a professor personally. Although students are required to obtain adviser signatures during registration periods and on certain forms, students are encouraged to take the initiative to contact their advisers on an informal basis at any time.
Telling an adviser about yourself - your past and your dreams - is the best way for you to enable your adviser to give you timely advice about appropriate educational goals.
