Commons
The Buntrock Commons opened on November 5, 1999. Funded by the
largest single donation ever made to a Lutheran school ($26 million,
by Dean Buntrock, Ole '55, and his family), it almost
doubled the space available for student activities.
The Buntrock Commons houses the bookstore, a small
theater, the cafeteria (food service by Bon Appetit),
the Cage (coffee shop), the Pause (a nightclub, modeled in part
on the Twin Cities' First Ave), Student Government offices, student
radio station (KSTO), the student newspaper office, the yearbook
office and more.
While a building cannot by itself change the nature
of a school, the new Commons is located directly between the Library
and Boe Chapel, and is viewed as a crossroads between the academic
and spiritual life of the college.
