AFRICA

 

Ghana

THE COUNCIL STUDY CENTER PROGRAM — CIEE (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Sponsored by the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), the Council Study Center in Ghana is designed for students excited by the opportunity to be at the cultural and intellectual center of a nation in the process of realizing its potential.

Namibia

NATION-BUILDING, GLOBALIZATION AND DECOLONIZING THE MIND: SOUTHERN AFRICAN PERSPECTIVES (SPRING SEMESTER)This program examines these crucial issues from the perspectives of the new democracies of southern Africa. Students explore these issues by meeting and interacting with leaders of government and civil society, as well as seeing and experiencing the concrete results of these realities at the grassroots level. A crucial part of the program will be investigating the parallels between these societies and the United States.

Sénégal

Dakar — (Full year or Spring Semester)
Based at the Baobab Center and the Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Sénégal, this program is designed for students who wish to have an opportunity to live and study in a French-speaking West African country. The program introduces students to Sénégal and Sénégalese society in its multiple dimensions and allows them to gain an understanding of issues such as education, women’s roles, traditional ways of life, and the impact of development and globalization.

Tanzania

ACM Tanzania — Fall: Studies in Human Evolution and Ecology
The ACM Tanzania program offers undergraduates an unusual opportunity to conduct fieldwork in some of the world’s greatest paleoanthropological and ecological sites. Students divide their time between the University of Dar es Salaam and the Northern Region of Tanzania. The program is both physically and academically demanding, and only well-qualified students will be selected.

ACM Tanzania — Spring: Nation-building and Development in Africa
On this program based primarily on the campus of the University of Dar es Salaam, students experience the breadth of Tanzanian society and study its culture, language, politics, religion, and socio-economic structures. Field trips and a two-week rural stay supplement the academic work, enabling students to explore the country’s cultural, economic, and ecological diversity.

The Lutheran College Consortium for Tanzania and the University of Dar es Salaam (Fall Semester)
The Lutheran College Consortium for Tanzania is a cooperative exchange program between four colleges of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the University of Dar es Salaam, located seven miles from Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania, East Africa.

United States

CHICAGO SEMESTER IN THE ARTS PROGRAM — ACM (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) The Chicago Arts Program is a 15-week guide to the contemporary art world. While living in Chicago, students attend a wide range of cultural events. In addition, students meet and work with local artists and arts professionals in part-time internships. Not limited to arts majors, the program is open to all students who have a strong interest in the arts.

CITY ARTS (MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL) — HECUA (SPRING SEMESTER) City Arts explores creativity in the arts and the roles arts play in shaping urban life. Field study, seminar/discussion, and site visits in Twin Cities’ arts communities develop critical inquiry and an understanding of the nature of art, the role of artists in society, and issues of support of and access to the arts. Internships connect program topics with professional development and issues of the work world.

DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM, ENGINEERING — UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA, MINNEAPOLIS
This cooperative program enables qualified students to earn a B.A. from St. Olaf and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Minnesota. The five-year program includes the senior year and the fifth year at the University of Minnesota. A second program enables students to receive, in four years, the

B.A. at St. Olaf and enter a Master of Engineering degree program at the University of Minnesota. This program will typically involve two additional years.

DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM, ENGINEERING — WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY, ST. LOUIS
This cooperative program enables qualified students to earn a B.A. from St. Olaf and a B.S. in engineering from Washington University (St. Louis). The five-year program includes the senior year and the fifth year at Washington University. All St. Olaf degree requirements must be satisfied as well as the admission requirements at Washington University.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: SCIENCE, PUBLIC POLICY, AND COMMUNITY ACTION— HECUA (FALL SEMESTER) Based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, this program addresses key processes of ecosystem degradation and rehabilitation, the social and economic underpinnings of conflict over environmental change, and public policy and community-based strategies that strive toward sustainability. Topics include sustainable agriculture, land use management, watershed protection, industrial pollution, energy projection and consumption, transportation, urbanization, and suburban sprawl.

METRO URBAN STUDIES TERM (MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL) — HECUA (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) Based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, the Metro Urban Studies Term (MUST) immerses students in the Twin Cities’ rich heritage of citizen action on local, national, and global issues. Field study and community service internships are emphasized for studying the theory and practice of social change and acquiring skills for civic life.

NATIONAL THEATER INSTITUTE (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER)The mission of the National Theater Institute is to expose young theater artists to intensive conservatory-based training and provide an orientation to the professional theater. After a semester of classes, work-shops, theater trips, and special events at NTI in Waterford, Connecticut, students have a sense of the commitment necessary for a career in the theater and a deeper knowledge of their capabilities, their strengths, and their weaknesses.

NEWBERRY LIBRARY PROGRAM IN THE HUMANITIES (CHICAGO) — ACM (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM SEMINAR) One of America’s great research libraries provides the setting and resources for this program. Students attend interdisciplinary seminars taught by visiting professors and have the opportunity to meet with resident scholars and library staff. In the fall, students write a major research paper based on the Newberry’s collections in the humanities. In addition, students may enroll in a one-month seminar in January.

OAK RIDGE SCIENCE SEMESTER (TENNESSEE) — ACM (FALL SEMESTER) The Oak Ridge Science Semester is designed to enable qualified undergraduates to study and conduct research in a prestigious and challenging scientific environment. As members of a research team working at the frontiers of knowledge, participants engage in long-range investigations using the facilities at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), near Knoxville, Tennessee.

THE OREGON EXTENSION (FALL SEMESTER) Set on the banks of an old mill pond in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon, this program offers students an adventure in ideas. Using the seminar and tutorial approach, students spend a semester in concentrated study, undistracted by campus life. Learning revolves around reading and small group discussions balanced by occasional lectures and individual study projects.

SEMESTER AT AN INDEPENDENT COLLEGE OF ART (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) Art majors, with departmental permission, attend an independent college of art to gain specialized studio experience, especially in the graphic arts. Interested students must work with the campus program advisor to determine availability. In recent years, students have attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

URBAN EDUCATION (CHICAGO) — ACM (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, SUMMER)The Urban Education program offers student teaching internships or a summer sequence of courses leading to bilingual or English as a Second Language (ESL) certification. Chicago offers exceptional opportunities for students interested in education and educational issues. The diversity of communities served by Chicago schools provides a rich setting in which interns learn from working with people who represent cultures and languages from all over the world.

URBAN STUDIES (CHICAGO) — ACM (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) American cities concentrate the social, cultural, and economic forces that shape modern society. Chicago is the quintessential American city that was founded on economic exchange, grew with America’s westward expansion, became the hub of midwest economic and political power, and continues to illustrate the best and worst of American society. The urban studies program immerses students in the life of Chicago while exploring both the historical and current forces that define urban life. Through supervised internships, seminars, a core course, and independent study, students experience the dynamics of a modern city while learning academic concepts to frame those experiences.

WASHINGTON (D.C.) SEMESTER — THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER) In this program, offered in cooperation with The American University, selected students spend a semes-ter in Washington, D.C., studying government in action. They register for a two-credit seminar, a one-credit internship and a one-credit individual research project or course elective. Four course credits are awarded for the 16 semester hours. Course levels are determined individually.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND SOCIAL CHANGE IN CENTRAL AMERICA (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) An intensive semester of study and travel designed to introduce students to the key issues facing Central Americans. Students will explore the life and culture of the peoples of Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua and study approaches toward economic development beginning in these countries.

Costa Rica

STUDIES IN LATIN AMERICAN CULTURE AND SOCIETY — ACM (FALL SEMESTER) This fall program is an interdisciplinary program for students seeking a comprehensive understanding of life in Latin America and wishing to develop fluency in Spanish. This program, which focuses on human-ities and social sciences, is designed to take full advantage of its Costa Rican setting. In San Jose and its environs, students live with families both to improve their language ability and to enjoy personal involvement in the daily life of a Latin American community.

TROPICAL FIELD RESEARCH: NATURAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES — ACM (SPRING SEMESTER) The spring program is designed for advanced work in the natural and social sciences. Costa Rica supports an extraordinary variety of plant and animal life and provides rich research opportunities for students of tropical biology and ecology. An equally broad range of research topics is available for students of anthropology, archaeology, economics, geography, geology, history, political science, and sociology. Students prepare for their research during a month-long orientation which includes intensive language training and a review of field work methodology.

Ecuador

COMMUNITY INTERNSHIPS IN LATIN AMERICA (CILA) — HECUA (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) Community Internships in Latin America (CILA) studies philosophical and ideological perspectives of community agencies and groups working with or for low-income and other disenfranchised populations in Ecuador. Internships enable students to apply the results of their learning in making choices about local and global responsibilities, and a required core seminar compares and integrates community-based participation with other models of social change.

Mexico

SOCIAL WORK IN A LATIN AMERICAN CONTEXT —  (SPRING SEMESTER) The goal of this program based in Cuernavaca is to develop cross-culturally competent, ethical social work professionals with a global perspective by providing a semester of transformative, experiential learning focused on social and economic justice.

Asia

Bangladesh

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, ENVIRONMENT, AND CULTURE IN BANGLADESH — HECUA (SPRING SEMESTER) This program addresses the challenges and prospects for development in Bangladesh through intensive classroom and field study of development models, Bengali culture, and religion. Through the semester, students are led to develop complex understandings of how Bangladeshi citizens, non-governmental organizations, development agencies, and the government envision and implement plans for a more just and sustainable future.

India

INDIA STUDIES (TILAK MAHARASHTRA VIDYAPEETH UNIVERSITY, PUNE, INDIA) — ACM (FALL SEMESTER) The Indian subcontinent provides a rich and complex background for the study of a non-Western civi-lization. India Studies program participants live with Indian host families in Pune, a city that is at once both traditional and highly industrialized, offering students an excellent opportunity to observe the interaction of tradition and modernity that characterizes contemporary India. While there, students enroll at Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth for an academic session, where they have language instruction, choose four other courses, and complete their independent study projects.

Japan

JAPAN STUDIES (WASEDA UNIVERSITY, TOKYO, JAPAN) — ACM (FULL YEAR, FALL SEMESTER, FALL SEMESTER AND INTERIM, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER) Students spend the academic year or semester at Waseda University’s International Division in Tokyo after a brief orientation providing intensive language practice and cultural discussions. In addition to required language study, electives may be chosen from a wide range of Asian studies courses taught in English. A family living experience in Tokyo provides an informal education in Japanese culture.

FERRIS UNIVERSITY (FULL YEAR) Ferris University, located in Yokohama, Japan, offers an Asian studies program for women, which provides an ideal opportunity to study and obtain practical knowledge of the culture and language of Japan. Classes are conducted in English and Japanese, depending on the course. Students live in dormitories.

NAGASAKI COLLEGE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The Japan Studies in Nagasaki Program offers courses in Japanese language, society, and culture. In addition to academic coursework, the program emphasizes exposure to Japanese society and culture through a series of field trips and tours.

NAGOYA UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The Nagoya University Program for Academic Exchange (NUPACE) is a short-term student exchange program through which students are given the opportunity to study in Japan for a semester or full year. The curriculum consists of Japanese language instruction, Japanese area studies, international/cross-cultural studies, and wide range of courses in the student’s major field of study.

Korea

YONSEI UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Yonsei University, situated on a large, quiet, well-wooded campus in the heart of Seoul, is the oldest university in Korea. The International Division of Yonsei was created to provide study opportunities for non-Korean students. Taught in English, courses are designed to provide a broad introduction to Korea in its Asian and world setting.

AUSTRALIA

CURTIN UNIVERSITY (SPRING SEMESTER) Curtin University is located in Perth on Australia’s west coast. Instruction is available to students with appropriate backgrounds in any field offered by the university, and students may participate in all of its programs. Accommodations are available on-campus, off-campus, and in homestays.

Austria

IES: VIENNA (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) offers a music program in Vienna specially designed for music majors and other talented instrumentalists and vocalists. Students study German language at beginning or intermediate level and have the opportunity to take courses in music history and music theory. Performance studies are available to all qualified students.

The Czech Republic

CENTRAL EUROPEAN STUDIES (PALACKY UNIVERSITY) — ACM (FALL SEMESTER) Combining its rich cultural heritage, the emerging revival of democracy and a struggle for economic success, the Czech Republic mirrors much of East and Central Europe. The program is based at Palacky University in Olomouc, the historic capital of Moravia. Students from many disciplines can benefit from intensive language training and course work, field trips to major Central European cities, independent research, and housing among Czech students in university dormitories.

France

 

PROGRAMS IN ANGERS AND RENNES
Students interested in French language, literature, and culture have the following options:

  1. Full Year at CIEE’s Cooperative Study Center in Rennes, Brittany (CIEE)
  2. Interim in Paris and Seminar in France, Université de Haute-Bretagne, Rennes, Brittany
  3. Interim in Paris and Spring Semester at Centre d’Etudes Françaises in Angers

All programs are open to students who have completed French 251 with a minimum of B-. Spring Semester includes the Interim in Paris as an integral and required part of the program. Students receive five credits for Interim in Paris followed by semester programs.

Students may also choose to go to France for an Interim only. French 275: French Language, Culture, and Theater in Paris is offered annually. Prerequisite is French 251 with a minimum grade of B- or approval of department.

IES: PARIS (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR)
The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) Paris program combines a rigorous curriculum of French language study with course offerings in a number of academic areas. This program is of special interest to students of art and art history since it offers a series of unique courses in those disciplines.

Germany

TERMS AT KONSTANZ, FLENSBURG, AND PADERBORN (FALL SEMESTER AND INTERIM, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR)
Students who have completed German 251 may study for either a semester or a full year at the University of Konstanz in southern Germany, the University of Flensburg near the Danish border, or the University of Paderborn in north-central Germany. One credit is granted for successful completion of the required intensive language course, held prior to the beginning of the German semester. Up to four additional upper level credits per semester may be earned from university courses. Most fields of study offered by the universities are open to program participants.

Great Britain

LONDON AND FLORENCE: ARTS IN CONTEXT — ACM (SPRING SEMESTER)
The London and Florence program compares the artistic achievements of two historically prominent cities. Participants study the historical and political context of art, architecture, literature, and theater as well as Italian language. Visits to museums, galleries, theaters, short trips to other areas of England and Italy, and discussions with local scholars supplement the course work. Students spend eight weeks in each city and enjoy a week-long mid-semester break.

CENTRE FOR MEDIEVAL AND RENAISSANCE STUDIES, OXFORD (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Students spend a semester or year at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Oxford. Affiliated with Keble College, Oxford, students become associate members of Keble with access to many of its undergraduate opportunities. Courses of study are available in archaeology, art history, studio art, history, law, languages, literature, music, philosophy, politics, and religious studies.

HARRIS MANCHESTER COLLEGE, OXFORD UNIVERSITY (FULL YEAR) A limited number of juniors may spend a year studying at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. Harris Man-chester College is situated in the heart of Oxford and its neo-Gothic architecture, faculty organization, and student lifestyle are like those of any other Oxford college. As members of the University of Oxford, students have use of all of the university’s facilities — libraries, lectures, associations, sports. Tutorial instruction is primarily available in English, geography, history, philosophy, politics, religion, and mathematics.

LANCASTER UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Students may participate in a semester- or year-long program at Lancaster University in northwestern England, where they are fully participating members of the university community. Courses are available in any field, including arts, natural sciences, women’s studies, and mathematics.

LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND POLITICAL SCIENCE (FULL YEAR) London School of Economics (LSE) provides economics majors an opportunity to study at a leading British University in the city of London. The school is noted for its work in economic and social policy. Its proximity to the London financial markets provides a rich environment for the study of finance.

UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The University of Aberdeen, one of the oldest universities in Great Britain, is located on the North Sea coast in northeastern Scotland. Students may participate in Fall Semester, Spring Semester, or the full year program. Aberdeen provides a wide range of departments including law, natural and physical sciences, divinity, arts, and social science.

UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The University of East Anglia (UEA) is located two hours northeast of London near the city of Norwich. Students of junior or senior standing may spend a semester or full year engaged in study in any one of the disciplines offered by UEA including humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Students are full members of the university and are housed in university residence halls.

UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD (FALL SEMESTER AND INTERIM, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Students may participate in a semester- or year-long program at the University of Sheffield, England’s fourth largest city, where they are participating members of the university community. Courses are available in biological science, ecology, environmental science, neuroscience, and molecular biology, as well as other fields appropriate to liberal arts students.

Hungary

BUDAPEST SEMESTER IN MATHEMATICS — THE MATHEMATICAL INSTITUTES OF THE HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES AND EOTVOS LORAND UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Designed primarily for junior and senior mathematics majors, this is a cooperative program with the Mathematical Institutes of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest. Students take at least three mathematics courses and one or two intercultural courses.

Ireland

Students of junior or senior standing are eligible for programs at an Irish university.

TRINITY COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF DUBLIN (FULL YEAR) Ireland’s oldest university, founded by Queen Elizabeth I as a training center for church and political lead-ers, Trinity College numbers many of Ireland’s famous writers among its graduates. It is located in the center of Dublin and offers a great variety in its courses.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR)University College Dublin (UCD) is the largest of the three Colleges of the National University of Ireland. Among its more famous graduates is James Joyce. The main campus is at Belfield, about three miles from the center of Dublin.

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF IRELAND, GALWAY (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Located in the city of Galway in West Ireland, National University of Ireland, Galway offers a wide range of subjects for study. In the heart of one of the Gaelic-speaking areas of Ireland, Galway provides unique opportunities for contact with both traditional and modern Ireland.

NORTHERN IRELAND: DEMOCRACY & SOCIAL CHANGE — HECUA (SPRING SEMESTER) This program examines the historical, political, and religious roots of the conflict in Northern Ireland, the prospects for peace and the progress being made. The program explores theoretical approaches to understanding conflict and its transformation as well as the processes underway in Northern Ireland to create a stable democracy.

Italy

ARTS OF FLORENCE — ACM (FALL SEMESTER) The Florence program provides an excellent opportunity for students interested in art history, Romance languages, and the humanities to study Renaissance painting, sculpture, architecture, history, and litera-ture. Italian language instruction, a studio art course, and courses providing a broad perspective on Ital-ian contributions to world civilization facilitate the study of Florentine artistic and cultural heritage. Vis-its to museums and galleries, short field trips to other cities throughout Italy, and discussions with local scholars supplement course work.

IES: MILAN (FALL SEMESTER, SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) offers students the opportunity to com-bine Italian language study with courses in music and musical instruction. Students study Italian at the beginning or intermediate level and have the opportunity to take courses in music theory, a music performance workshop, or courses in other disciplines taught in English.

Russia

SEMESTER IN RUSSIA (KUBAN STATE UNIVERSITY) — ACM (FALL SEMESTER)The enormous political, social, and economic changes taking place in Russia provide a fascinating environment for this program, and the Kuban region program site provides a particularly rich environment for understanding the changing nature of Russian life and the issues of national identity that accompany these changes. The program combines intensive study of the Russian language with a course about Russian society. Students live with Russian families, and the combination of home stays, field trips, and individual projects provide for maximum exposure to contemporary Russian life.

NOVGOROD STATE UNIVERSITY (FALL SEMESTER)The program at Novgorod State University allows flexible language and culture studies while integrating classes outside the St. Olaf Russian major within a Russian context. The semester consists of two language courses, one culture course, and one elective.

TERM IN ST. PETERSBURG (ST. PETERSBURG STATE UNIVERSITY) — CIEE (FALL SEMESTER)In cooperation with the Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE) St. Olaf offers a semester program at St. Petersburg University — one of the leading institutions of higher learning in Russia. The 14-week program (late August to mid-December) includes courses in Russian literature, culture, film, grammar, phonetics, conversation, translation, and analytical reading. Lectures include topics from history, political science, art history, and contemporary Russian life. The academic program is supplemented with excursions and field trips, including a trip to Moscow and other Russian cities. The trips are coordi-nated with the academic program through classroom preparation.

Scandinavia

DENMARK’S INTERNATIONAL STUDIES PROGRAM (COPENHAGEN) (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Students of junior or senior standing can study at Denmark’s International Study Program. Classes in the humanities and social sciences, international business studies, molecular biology and genetics, or marine environmental sciences are taught in English by Danish professors and are integrated with academic field work and study tours. Students can live with Danish families.

STAVANGER UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, TELEMARK UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY OF OSLO, UNIVERSITY OF TROMSØ (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) Exchange agreements with these universities in Norway allow students to spend a semester or full year studying in various disciplines within the liberal arts. SCANDINAVIAN STUDIES IN TELEMARK (FALL SEMESTER) The aim of Scandinavian Studies in Telemark is to stimulate students’ critical thinking and encourage them to be responsible and knowledgeable citizens of the world. The academic components include the opportunity for language study and will present aspects of Norwegian culture. Students engage in inter-cultural experience through class sessions, guided field trips, campus activities, student dorm life, and community interaction.

SCANDINAVIAN URBAN STUDIES TERM (OSLO) — HECUA (FALL SEMESTER) Scandinavian Urban Studies Term (SUST) introduces students to contemporary Scandinavia, especially Norway, and to issues of the modern welfare state and social democracies through field study of cities, urban planning, and problem solving. The program, based in Oslo, Norway, includes field study-travel to explore the relationship between Scandinavian countries, the emerging democracies of Eastern Europe, and global politics.

UNIVERSITY OF OSLO INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL (SUMMER) The International Summer School in Oslo, Norway, offers a broad program of study on an undergraduate level and some graduate courses. Beginning to advanced Norwegian language classes are also offered. Additional information is available from the International Summer School Office, located on the St.Olaf campus.

SEVILLE (UNIVERSITY OF SEVILLE) — CIEE (FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER, FULL YEAR) The program in Seville assumes that the student has already achieved the capacity to work solely in Span-ish. Courses are available in Spanish language and literature, humanities, and social sciences — some through the regular curriculum of the University of Seville. Sophomore standing or higher and completion of Spanish 251, 254, plus one additional course with a minimum grade of B is required to be considered for participation.

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO (FULL YEAR, FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER) Located on Tahrir Square in the heart of Cairo, students have the opportunity to take classes, taught in English, from the full curriculum of the American University in Cairo. In addition, they can take Arabic language courses. The Zamalek Student Residence provides accommodation for Egyptian and international students.

Turkey

BOGAZICI UNIVERSITY IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY (FULL YEAR, FALL SEMESTER, INTERIM AND SPRING SEMESTER) Bogazici University, one of the most prestigious universities in Turkey, offers courses in English in a vari-ety of disciplines in the arts and sciences. Turkish language study is not a requirement of the program but is strongly encouraged in order to facilitate interaction with the local culture. Students live together with Turkish and other international students in the modern campus dormitory called the Superdorm.
