Language Placement Surveys Timeline

St. Olaf requires completion of the third or fourth semester of study in a world language (known as the WLC graduation requirement) in order to to graduate.

  • If you wish to continue with a world language that you've already studied, you should take the placement survey/exam for that language.
  • You do not need to take the placement survey/exam if you plan to begin a language that you've never studied before.
  • You do not need to take the placement survey/exam if you will be earning AP/IB credit according to the charts provided by the Registrar’s Office.

Take this survey if you plan to use Chinese to satisfy the WLC graduation requirement and will not be earning AP/IB credit, or if you plan to study Chinese as a potential major.
